READ THIS BEFORE VOTING Okay, every forum I go to I find different answers. It would seem that the general reception of Halo 4 was negative. However, I have found many different threads where the trend is the opposite, where people liked it. In my opinion, I liked the story that 343i painted in the main campaign. It will be a nice segway into Halo 5, I think. However, Spartan Ops was a weak and unnecessary replacement for Firefight. Seeing as how this was 343i first ever game made without being able to use Bungie as an asset, I say they did a good job. Was it perfect? Absolutely not. It was a game all fans had been anticipating since they finished the fight in Halo 3. The hype was sky-high. Nothing 343i or Bungie could've produced would've lived up to our expectations. They did do a lot of positives though. They made a tremendous visual leap on 7 year old hardware. They brought back the BR. Does Halo 4 really deserve all of the negative comments and reviews it recieves?

Theirs always a race at the end, there's alway a assault on the control room type mission. Halo 4 featured none of these characteristics in its gameplay. I don't have live so not much to comment on the multiplayer. I do it it's stupid that you have load outs. I think as a game halo 4 excelled beyond expectations I think the thing were not liking about it are expected from any designer switch.

    • It was absolute shit. Music was shit. Graphics was shit. Story was shit. Gameplay was shit. When playing a game called Halo 4 I wanted a sequel to Halo 3, not a sequel to Halo: Reach. Even if you did give me a sequel to Reach, they could have at least kept everything that made Halo: Reach good. No Firefight? Get real. No Forge World? What the -blam!-, three different rock maps are a terrible replacement for Forge World and Forge Island is an insult with just more rocks. Less armor customization? Having 2000 arm and leg pieces means nothing when all of them look bland and none of them stand out. No Elites for Matchmaking? Completely unjustifiable. No Invasion or some variant of it? Even more unjustifiable. They can't even handle what they do with their own Matchmaking! You never see Majestic and Castle maps in the MM Pool and they wont just give those maps a separate playlist meaning people shelled out money for those maps for nothing. They brought two new game types and they removed the playlist that had one of them (Dominion) and removed any playlist that had the other (Extraction). Big Team Slayer is a far cry for BTB, I don't mind playing 8v8 Slayer but sometimes I would like some objective mixed in, splitting BTB into two playlists is a shit idea, especially if they're just going to remove one of them as well. Honestly, there is absolutely no excuse for over half these problems with Halo 4 and every new "update" 343 brings out to make the game better just seems to make it worse. They are completely incompetent, and if they ever find a way to fix their shit and make Halo 5 a God send it will too little too late for me to give a care in the world.

I enjoyed it. Minus some of the redesigns of the Marines... The PELICAN... Elites.... Jackals... Multiplayer has never been my thing in Halo- or any game when I'm not playing with people I know.

      • Yes, it does deserve the negativity the game came out unfinished and the people who "actually liked it" either are taking up the arse or they wouldn't know a quality game if it came up and bit them. This whole lets push the game out the door before polishing it first is a trend well known with companies like EA, Infinity Ward, Treyarch and now 343i.

      • When Reach came out, and delivered a horrible competitive multiplayer, I was still playing daily because it supported really interesting custom games and communities. Halo 4 not only failed to make a good multiplayer CoD-clone, but it hacked away at all customization in custom games, and butchered all of the communities that made Halo great, making it a bad competitive and casual experience overall.

        • It's one thing to accidentally make a very very bad Halo game (I'd say Reach is an example of this, but looking back it honestly wasn't THAT bad), but another to blatantly, without a doubt, copy the generic shooter platform? Yea, Halo 4 doesn't deserve a single bit of sympathy from me. Oh and one more thing. H4's population is EXTREMELY low during school hours, but literally triples or quadruples after school hours. Nothing but little kids playing that shitpile, probably weren't old enough to play Halo 2 or 3.

          • As someone whose played competitively since CE, I didn't hate it. It was missing "something" and really didn't have me as engaged as 2 and 3. Part of that is the continued watering down of the game play and lack (for the first year) of a competitive ranking system.

          • You put it very well OP. Expectation was very high for the continuation of Master Chief's story. I truthfully wasn't a big fan of Halo 4's campaign. I liked Halo Reach's and ODST's campaign a lot. I like playing as soldiers fighting an enemy that you know, deep down inside, that you're ultimately going to lose. Halos 1 - 3 were also very good, being a super soldier that is basically humanity's last chance. Spartan Ops was pretty lame IMO. Firefight was so much better. Multiplayer wasn't bad, but I preferred Reach's and 3's. I know this has been said before. Halo 4 wasn't the best Halo game for sure, but it wasn't a bad game overall. I plan on giving 343i one more chance. If Halo 5 doesn't improve upon Halo 4's mistakes, I'll probably just move on from the series.

I have mixed feelings for halo 4. Campaign had an interesting and new feel, but after reading some books they made the didact a complete joke. I'm sure more people were more focused on Cortona and Chief's story, but honestly that didn't interest me as much. Spartan ops I think was a terrific idea, but it was too difficult to play in. We also couldn't watch any of our gameplay in theater mode, if you could there would be more fails of the weak. Thirdly, there are issues with multiplayer. The gameplay is WAY too fast paced to be a love able halo game, in that sense I believe it's like a COD clone, but the reasons other people have been giving are ridiculous. Flood is my most treasured thing to play on halo 4 multiplayer. Finally, there's the (also) WAY too difficult forge mode. It's too difficult to forge maps, and if your not the best forger in the world it ends up looking disgusting. The building blocks that 343 gives you make it clear to see where you mess up. Theater mode and forge are the most disappointing In my eyes because that's were halo fans like to express themselves and add to the universe. I say theater mode because it's difficult to make machinima with hearing a guy yell "FIRST STRIKE" or "SNAPSHOT." I'm a huge machinima fan so seeing the lack of machinima in halo 4 made sense because of its terrible background noises. Lastly," GIVE US A NEW SPECIES OR GIVE US BACK ELITES, 343!"
halo 4 could've been WAY better!
• Multiplayer all in all felt similar to a halo game all though it wasn't quite there. I was fine with the load outs until I saw thy you could have perks and level requirements. If they were going to go the load out route, have everything unlocked from the start and get rid of the perks

I don't hate Halo 4 and I don't hate 343i. Continuing the Halo franchise is a monumental task for a new developer, and I think they've proven they're up to the challenge. I'm obviously happy to voice my opinions on the story/multiplayer/etc, but they reflect my personal disagreement with Halo's direction under 343i. And I don't need to change my criticisms to still support Halo or 343i.

Halo 4 was not quite as memorable as previous games. It sucks that 343i didn't carry Firefight with them, add new quality to Forge, and the multiplayer broken. They had every opportunity to fix the game but they miscommunicated with their community. Frankie did solemnly apologize that they'll do better, which probably justified the situation (or not, mostly) and made some slight improvements but the damage was already done to begin with. Halo 4, to me, was okay. It didn't meet my standards but I can tolerate some of the game types, such as "infinity" slayer and I still play it. I did have a bone to pick about the campaign too but I also did like what they with few character developments. Out of the entire campaign, only three levels felt like what Halo was supposed to be IMO.

I play it semi-regularly. The campaign was good (borrowed it from a friend and beat the campaign). I bought it about 6 months ago with the season pass/the newest DLC. Granted I don't put nearly as much time into it as I did with Halo 3...or even Halo 2 LAN parties. But it isn't "the worst game of all time," it's far from it. The only thing I wish they would have done was scrap the crappy playlists they chose and just have the basic ones (Their version of Action Sack is terrible and I wish that infinity slayer would spawn more often). Everybody plays BTB while nobody plays SWAT or Snipes, even though those are the two I play most often.
