Sigma Notation Help

So I'm supposed to write a sum in sigma notation. The sum is as follows: 1 - x + x^2 - x^3 + ... + (-1^n)(x^n) Now I'm think I have the answer, but I'm not sure. The lower limit would be i = 1. The rule would be ((-1^i)(x^i)) / x. The upper limit would be n The upper limit is what I'm most confused about. Can anyone tell me if what I have is correct? (probably futile to ask here)
