I think it's a tie between music and film/photography. You have to e a real idiot to waste money on that. Check and see if your choice is on the Forbes list of worst majors.

1 ReplyEdited by Flee: 1/14/2014 11:41:48 AMJust because some majors usually get you into more successful and higher paying jobs doesn't mean they're "better" than others. I'm glad for those who choose an education in a field they really enjoy regardless of how highly valued it is. That being said, I never really understood the point of a women's studies degree.

Edited by Jebediah Kerman : 1/14/2014 12:28:52 PMI majored in criminology with a minor in women's studies (it was actually super useful) and I'm pretty happy with my choice.

I got into audio engineering/sound design because I love to do it not because of the money. (The money is solid though) seriously so long as it can support you do what you love.

>Implying that the only reason to go to college is to get a job People used to go to college to hone their skills and explore their interests. I'm getting a degree in Computer Science right now but one day I might go back and get a degree in Music Theory.

There was a school near me where they let you major in whatever you wanted. Some people picked happiness, other people picked cheese and lived on a farm.
-
1 ReplyWhy does it matter what someone else's major is? Seems like some people just want to feel better about themselves.

1 ReplyMy sister majored in Art and had feminism as her minor. She works for the government now, don't know how that ever happened.

Arts degrees can be useful if you are going to law school or teacher's college. You aren't getting anywhere with a just Bachelor of Arts though. Also, about the teaching route, you'll probably have a better chance landing a job with a math or science background than an arts one. Arts teachers are a dime a dozen, but math and science ones are more in demand. It really shouldn't be a secret that degrees that teach a very high degree of technical or professional competence, like engineering, science, accountancy, finance and so forth are going to be in demand. Skilled labour is becoming more and more specialized, and companies want those skills, because the people with those skills are going to be the ones making them money.

2 RepliesI like how philosophy and history are there even though those are two degrees typically done before going into law, politics or high ranking corporate positions.
