My review of the Xbox One for those interested

- EDIT - When did this forum get so butthurt? This is a review for those interested in buying an xbox one, what it does and what games I think are good for it, simple as that. This is in no way a comparison review to other consoles. Games First and most importantly, the games play smoothly and start up much faster than the xbox 360, almost instantly. The games I currently have are battlefield 4, assassins creed black flag, and call of duty Ghosts. The xbox one shines the most with digital games. If you don't get your games digitally, I highly recommend them with the new xbox because I can instantly switch between the games when i'm ready to play another, rather than having to possibly find your disc if you're unorganized, also digital games have no taxes so it saved me 5 bucks to spend on my account. I highly recommend battlefield 4, as it is a pretty amazing experience on the xbox one I wish i hadn't unocked everything i wanted on the 360 already so i'd have more incentive to keep playing it. The visuals and the scale of destruction you can cause is amazing, but it can be hard to get into if you're new to the series. If you play it on the 360, the maps are not any bigger, as quite a few have told me, but it feels and looks much better and it doesn't freeze every game. - 9/10 Assassins creed is a good game if you just want to play a game to spend quite a few hours on while you wait for your friends to get on to play multiplayer, it seems to be much more fun than the previous AC games i've played, i gave up on AC2. - 8/10 Call of duty ghosts has a rather large amount of things you can unlock to keep you playing, and i feel they are really trying to spice up the game by changing up the formula, although only slightly. It has alot of offline modes to play with friends or random players like squads and extinction for when you just don't feel like trying that hard. As for the multiplayer I seem to get frustrated with it very easily, as usual. Player health seems to be lowered almost to the point of it being as low as hardcore. The campaign I really liked the concept of, it starts out very boring but hooked me in after a few missions, it has a cliche plot, but better than "lolrussians everywhere" the ending at first had me disappointed, but threw in a huge surprise that could turn around the next games plot into something that has a lot of potential. - 7.5/10 Graphics Not a huge leap from the previous generation. Battlefield 4 IMO takes the lead with best multiplayer graphics and physics. It doesn't lag or freeze up at the end of the game, and the weather effects can distract me from actually playing the objective. Call of Duty ghosts started out hideous because I played battlefield 4 first, but i'm slowly starting to appreciate the graphics and just realize the different engines they have, nothing impressive though. Assassins creed on the other hand, I would love to see how the 360 could handle the large vast ocean and some of the weather effects. The ocean looks absolutely amazing but it gets old sailing around across the ocean, to die and have to sail all the way back again, i'm over it. Kinect I am still alittle upset how I bought the 1st kinect, only for them to release another as I was just hoping for an update or something, but this new one i'm glad they threw in, i would have got it anyways. Most of the Xbox one revolves or includes the kinect. The problem with the old one was that once you started up a game, you no longer had use for the kinect, as most games weren't compatible (save for skyim which i can't play anymore WITHOUT kinect.) This new one though, I talk to like it's my dog, i'm always throwing out commands no matter what screen or game i'm playing. The camera with battlefield 4 I love using but it can be hard sometimes for it to detect me so I can use the lean feature. I'm excited to see how this kinect will integrate with it's games in the future. TV I have 2 tv's in my game-room so I don't have much use for this feature other than for fun, I don't currently have it hooked up because i need a splitter for it to receive my tv's signal. I do use the oneguide as a tv-guide for my other tv so that's useful to know what's on tv, but it'd be much better if I could actually set it up. Other features It heavily supports misc features such as Twitch, youtube, and internet explorer or netflix. I think I have alittle bit too much fun with the DVR, I'm always recording things (I think i have like 50 clips) and my most used kinect command is "xbox record that" i say it every 5 minutes probably. It's a very easy tool to use and you can conveniently take it from your skydrive and upload it to youtube, it even allows you to record your voice for the clips, although the movie maker could use some updates. The games like AC have very long render distances which is impressive, especially if you played prototype with a 10 foot render distance and high speed movement, so the cloud helps with the large environments I can see ship battles going on pretty far away. Skydrive allows me to upload things to it and rip it off my pc and do what i want with it there but i haven't gone passed anything uploaded but the DVR. The snap feature is also pretty neat (I wish it snapped the youtube app) I watch netflix on it sometimes though the screen will be very small and starting an app can even lag if you have a game up. Some games that require alot of situational awareness like battlefield and call of duty though are hard to play snapped as the screen of course scrunches up. You don't even need to really be a heavy gamer to enjoy the console. What I like the most The game DVR hands down. There is no more "Omg I wish you saw that" "I just did the coolest thing (but none of my friends are here) that is all eliminated as now you can just show them your greatest moments. What I don't like The fact that people signing in no longer includes a notification. I feel as though i've been playing for days by myself because it seems to be encouraging solitary behavior im not searching for my friend to be on every 5 minutes and I was MUCH more social on the xbox 360, almost always in a party. Verdict 9/10. I can't give it a 10 until we receive some important updates to the overall UI. It doesn't suck as much as everyone claims it to be, but it definitely could use some working on. I give it a 9 because there isn't much I want it to do that it doesn't already do. Most of the stuff I have problems with, also can be fixed by patches and updates that are most likely already on there way. I see a lot of potential in the console (I remember how the 360 was at first compared to how it is now and it's evolved alot) I can't even imagine how it will be at the end of the generation. If you have any other questions, feel free to comment.

  • Erm, don't buy Battlefield 4. It sucks because it doesn't even work properly. It's complete and utter garbage.

    • Took the words out of my mouth I feel like assassins creed is basicly a port over I love the graphics on battlefield.

      • You should get Dead Rising 3 and Forza 5. In my opinion those are two of the best reasons to own an Xbone right now. I played them on my friend's Xbone and thoroughly enjoyed both of them. I have a PS4 but I plan on getting the One down the line for exclusives.

        • I'll likely just end up passing the only reason I owned a 360 was for the Gears, Halo, party chat and more of my friends had one but now both Halo and Gears went to shit and my friends went over to PS4 and it has party chat now.

          • I love the X1 but it's got some pretty annoying problems. Such as inexplicably kicking me out Of a game for no reason. Also lost all my BF 4 progress for no reason, and there are times where the controller simply doesn't work. Now Call of duty Ghosts simply doesn't work either. Also any and all movies I play on it through the blu ray player have no sound effects including voice, only has music.

                • I have to agree, the xbone is not nearly as bad as all of the sony fanboys claim it is. It really is a great system and I absolutely love it, its not perfect by any means but its damn good. When I first heard about kinect being bundled with it I hated the Idea and I thought I would never use it, but now I use it all of the time and it actually works great. Every time I say Xbox On I can't help but smile its just really cool to have both your TV and xbox turn on instantly just using your voice. I actually decided to buy both consoles this year and now I have both a PS4 and a Xbox One and at first I was just gonna get a PS4 but now Im glad I got the Xbox too.

I agree with you. I'm pretty much loving it and like you have a few problems but they are fixable. Also I would add volume control for both sides when your snApped so you could turn down volume on tv when playing but still hear the game while watching tv. For those who keep pointing out 3rd party games in review let me help. DR3 is absolutely mindless fun 9/10 and Ryse is really good 8.5/10. Definetly shows off next gen graphics. I love it and would give my Xbox an 8. As soon as they fix party chat and a few other things a 9.5. When Titanfall comes out a 10.
I was gonna get an Xbox anyway but if there had been any doubt Titanfall would have squashed that doubt
• I'd give it an 8. It has a lot of potential with Cloud gaming and the Kinect 2.0, but it also lacks in hardware.

                      • 9 = A lot of potential? Your rating is as broken as IGN's.
