It depends on your current relationship with her. If you talk to her often I don't see why texting her would be a problem. If you rarely talk to her texting might be a problem. You should probably speak to her in person if that is the case. But overall I think you should just take the chance. Allowing her to text you first may seem like the 'cool' thing to do, and may give off the impression that you 'don't care', but honestly if that text never comes you would just have missed a chance. Don't be afraid to grab at the opportunities that appear.
