For those of you who watched last nights episode of the Walking Dead, you noticed the governor standing on a tank, which apparently was the one that marine took from Fort Benning. Why was it an M60 Patton tank though? The army phased those out decades ago and replaced them with the M1 Abrams. Are you seriously going to tell me that they were all somehow destroyed in the apocalypse and now the army had to resort to the outdated Pattons? Bullshit.

1 Replybecause it's old and probably cheap as shit for the show to get one compared to an M1A2 at ~(IIRC)500 million each. remember season 1? that was an M60 tank as well, only dressed up. hell, it might even be the same tank.

One of them was a tank operator old sport, got it from the army base he must have.

In something like a Zombie apocalypse, everything would be used to survive.

Only thing I can think of is that when shit got bad they started to revive old equipment that would be in army museums or storage or surplus. But then again, he did say that he got out of Benning as soon as the zombie thing started, which means that they wouldn't have done that yet. Maybe they just figured that people wouldn't question the appearance of an outdated tank because we wouldn't recognize it as one.

4 RepliesThe dude said he was military, but that's pretty much it. He may have worked in whatever storage facility was housing the old tanks and just rolled out with one. They gotta keep the old ones somewhere, I'd imagine.

1 ReplyDont the newer ones require two people to drive?

1 ReplyEdited by HUNTERxKILLER: 11/25/2013 8:47:16 PMMaybe the military wouldn't let them actually use an M1 Abrams for the filming, so they had to use a Patton instead.

6 RepliesEdited by Vien 'Quitonm: 11/25/2013 8:43:51 PMThe Governor went to a military base and tried to overtake it alone. The military gave him that as a gift for being a brave soul. "Tanks for nothing!" the Governor stated, before he began to tread off in "victory".
