What if the Playstation Beta ended a week early?

Would you, as a Playstation owner, feel upset? Would you, as an Xbox owner, feel like justice was served? Reflect a little bit on this purely hypothetical scenario and let me know your thoughts, I'm curious to see what people have to say. If all goes according to plan I think we might gain a little perspective on each other's current feelings. Let's see how this goes :)

  • To me it's not about how long I get to play it, it's that for however long the difference in time between when Sony gets the Beta to when I can play it, I'll know that it is being played and I don't have access to it. It's jealousy really, not towards anyone individually (If I had a Sony console I'd be thrilled) but just that I'll have to wait that much longer after so long. I'll have to go dark on the forums and youtube and not talk to some of my friends so that I can preserve a shred of newness for a game we'll essentially be getting late. I'd also like to say to those who say "It's only a beta no big deal" that Bungie has stated that they are treating the beta like a full product launch, with most of the features up and running. If the Halo 3 and Reach beta are any indication it's pretty much going to be exactly like the final game, so I don't really see saying "It's just a beta" as a valid point.

    • As negotiated concessions go, I'd say it was relatively minor... To be honest, it wouldn't surprise me if Sony had initially tried to negotiate for early release, but ended up settling for early beta. It's all a crock though... The reason Sony is getting "exclusive" perks, including beta a week early, is because they negotiated them with the distributor, Activision and Microsoft didn't. Does anyone here SERIOUSLY think that Microsoft couldn't have negotiated exactly the same deal as Sony if they wanted to? Seriously? No... They're sitting this one out, & waiting to see what kind of game it will turn out to be. Why? Because they have plenty of big exclusive titles in their lineup & don't feel the need to spend that kind of money on an untested title from an independent (ie, not a wholly-owned Microsoft subsidiary) studio. If Destiny turns out to be the game changer it claims to be, then maybe they'll negotiate something more than a basic distribution deal with Activision in 2016. For now, they're going to wait and see, simply because they can afford to.

    • Honestly, I don't mind about the Beta arriving a week earlier for the Sony-fanbase - let it last the "extra" week. It makes sense, they're trying to breach a totally new market and reach out to people who don't have years of Halo under their belt to attest to Bungie and everything they are capable of. I'm quite glad that Bungie is making a real effort to connect to their new potential fanbase, and not alienating them by favouritising the Xbox community. Up until very recently, Bungie was an Xbox exclusive developer and for them to continue to act like one isn't going to attract new blood to play Destiny. If it means more people will be playing Destiny come 2014, then I can't see any long-term reason to oppose what is happening.

    • I would rather the beta be over faster so we can have the real game faster. I can see why Bungie would do things this way and I respect the marketing, but as someone who will have the PS4... The game being completed as soon as possible with as much beta feedback as possible is my only want.

    • Is this a therapy session or something? Do you honestly think their beta would end early? Please let this be a joke thread.

Why limit anyone's access to the fun? I'm fine with my PS friends playing Destiny before me, and I wouldn't wish for them to lose their access early either. EDIT: PC master race. (after reading the comments below)

      • Interesting idea. I feel... I feel like it would be fair, but I still don't think it should happen because it leads to the dark side.

        • All these Halo fans loving that Halo was exclusive. Bungie gives a bit of exclusive content to another company and you're all up in flames.

          •
What's wrong is twisting the knob to 20 when it should be at like maybe 2 or 3 when you are responding to the fact that they are upset. It certainly won't help the situation and it quite simply isn't becoming to lose it like that over a disagreement that is so pathetically minor.
Your previous thoughts, what you're doing now:
Disguised as an attempt at discovering what everyone's true feelings are about my topic, I'm actually secretly being a hypocrite and blowing the situation up into an even bigger balloon so more people, the side angry about Playstation getting access to a Beta first, and the people telling them to chill out, can both come in here and argue more with each other. And I as the nefarious mastermind won't be to blame for any of it because I'm simply staying aloof and neutral that no one will ever think I've instigating anything with this thread.
Yeah, way to show your cool and calm and oh so mature side to things, you've been stalking the Destiny pages for weeks and making plenty of topics, but claiming that a few might tell the people, that are losing it over this, are then taking it too far and running their attitude rampant when addressing them, is hilarious when you do nothing more than ensure the hostility and whining goes further, really says more about you than you might think. Especially when just because someone makes a post that includes everyone that's complaining for no reason, you decide that instead of demonstrating this fair community member that you claim to be, you'd rather just drop a backhanded post then leave and not continue further even attempting to demonstrate why someone might be right or wrong, because I certainly was holding back with that post and my "attitude" could have been worse considering the degree of entitlement going on.

            • Why would they do that? Pass up on the opportunity to farm as much data as possible. It is possible that the PS4 is slightly easier for them to meet there specs on so the content will be beta ready a little bit early with a little bit of buffer room to iron out the details on MS consoles. It's also possible that they just chose to meet the specs first on Sony's consoles instead of trying to finish on all platforms at the same time. (Which yes probably resulted from a monetary incentive provided to the team) But if that is the case - why stop pulling in data from one source if you're still open to feedback elsewhere? Sure it's possible they would do something like that to maintain goodwill, but really that's kind of spiteful to wish. "You need to have less fun because I had less fun" (I know you're not wishing this on anyone just opening a conversation) This announcement may or may not affect me as I am waiting for my group of comrades to buckle down on their next gen purchase selection before I buy my own. But honestly, as long as I get to play in the beta as well as the full game when it releases then I'm content. If you get to play the game more than I do, I'm happy for you - go have fun.

            • It's not gonna happen. Bungie have already decided who they favour next generation, it's Sony and Xbox gamers are blatantly an afterthought. I wouldn't be surprised if Bungie simply launched a beta on Xbox and the full game on PS.

Would not give a fuck. Just like I don't give a fuck that the PS4 is getting it early. I just think it's extremely odd that a company that says that it likes to pride on it's community seems to be ignoring about 2/3rds of it. Also your plan is going to fail horribly. You're asking fanboys to have empathy.

              • I feel like it should! Well it should end how ever much days it were released early. It honestly looks like Bungie just stopped giving two shits about Xbox. I know they're trying to open up to Playstation gamers but it feels like Xbox has been abandoned.

              • Let them have their week or two of early access. As long as the game doesn't stay in its beta build any longer than it has to, I'm fine. All I'm worried about is if this decision will make the development process longer because of HOW early they get it. I think its a sound marketing strategy imo.

              • Honestly, this is just good marketing from Bungie. They're reaching out to the Sony crowd. They are not doing this out of contempt for MS. As a playstation owner I would feel far more ripped off if the Beta was ended early solely in the name of "fairness".

                • Unfortunately not. I could care less if they get an extra week or so, but this is the first time that the public gets to set foot in Bungie's new universe. I wouldn't care if this was Destiny 2 or something, but this is the very first time. Bungie (Although I suspect Activision is behind this.) has essentially just kept the majority of its fan base from being able to be part of that "Initial Rush".

                • I think I would be kind of confused as to why even bother offsetting them. I suppose it leaves them better prepared to deal with people smashing against the servers. But launch is going to be simultaneous on all platforms, so wouldn't it be better to test it under those conditions? But to answer your question: I think, as someone who is a 360 owner but hasn't decided between an Xbox One or a Playstation 4 quite yet, that there isn't any justice to be served. I think this is less about what PS gets and more about the lack of acknowledgement that the Xbox platforms are even exist. I've said in a couple threads now, I think Average Joe gamer that doesn't keep up with the latest news might think Destiny is a Playstation exclusive. That's how little we've heard about their Xbox plans. Just silence, except for "Destiny can be pre-ordered for PS4, PS3, Xbox One, and Xbox 360."
