• One point of discussion is the improper usage of the word "hobo." Homeless =/= hobo

    • I've been homeless multiple times. Longest stretch was about 3 months where I slept in a tent on the riverbed. Then some scumbags trashed the tent while I was out getting food. Good times

      • You read the Cracked article too? I just read it a few minutes ago. It changed my views of the homeless quite a bit.

        • When I volunteer at the local homeless shelter and talk to the "hobos", I get to know of their struggle. What you do say is somewhat accurate from what I see. To every single "hobo" I talk to when I volunteer at the shelter (Which is every single one there since my duties are to serve them dinner and take the dinner to them) twice a month, I always hear the same thing: Can't find a job, trying their hardest to find a job, and willing to do anything. Hell, they only go there for dinner and then I see some of them reading the newspaper that was purchased that day in the shelter looking at the Classifieds section. I've only seen a few people under 18 that are homeless, the ones that I have seen are pretty miserable, but are doing their best to find some form of employment.

            • Ok? I am glad they take a bit to find their ground and get back out there?
And they rarely use shelters, while only 16% of those without shelter are chronically homeless.
You know, if you read up on those who are homeless maybe you will see why they don't like to go to shelters?

            • While I do find this interesting, I'm not sure where the discussion value is. Could you explain if there is any?

              • Interesting, actually I have a friend who, just for kicks, was a hobo for 3 months when he was 19. He rode a bus out to the west coast, worked as a waiter, alternated between sleeping at bus stops and such until he roomed up with a hilarious drug addict on the fringe on San Francisco, and then came home a few months later. Because he wasn't legally a tenant of the guy who owned the crappy apartment he was homeless. Oh and he bathed in a fountain in Detroit lol!
