Well seeing how in the game it's set to be that you are the only person in a given area unless you have people with you or you enter a public area I think the sound of distant gun fire wouldn't make much sense.

How do you explain public events if mass amount of people just show up? were they hiding in the shrubbery and I'm the only one that gets to fight anything?

Listen troll, you can try to rustle my jimmies all you want, it isn't going to phase me. However, in response, the public events imply that there are other fire teams in the area preforming their own strikes and missions, also stated in said "old russia demo" which again would provide validity to my query of distant gun fire.

Yeah I take it that you didn't watch watch the Old Russia demo. No the public event implies that you entered a public event. This is not an MMO where you are going to be playing with everyone at one time. There was no gunfire in the distance during the Old Russia Demo and there shouldn't be in the actual game. You are supposed to be the only people on the Moon or on Mars. There shouldn't be a giant war breaking out around you.

I am more obsessed with this game then I should be. I realize it is not an mmo, however, the genre that this game falls into has never existed. To be a 'shared world experience' as Bungie puts it has never been done before. To have each area that we can explore to be a speculated 3km X 3 km, and 3 confirm areas on the moon which would arguably put it at 9 km x 9 km of playable sandbox makes just the Moon on the of the largest games in existence. This is virginal ground and Bungie can do as the please, there are just expectations previously set from some the the gaming industries best games that they are competing with.
