Apotheosis and I were in a disscussion of whether or no Destiny was really truely and "Open World" game. He mentioned that the world was large, but that maybe the only parts that we could visit would be based upon certain mission location.
Anyways, in the video above, around the 2:20 mark, the narator walks to the edge of a large cliff and shows us Older Russia. And makes a claim that all of it is actually geometry and "that we could actually go there, but we have a schedule to keep". But at the bottom of the cliff you can see a large body of water. That expands for several miles to the right and left. So, to keep of out of "Older Russia" is there a river to keep us from reaching that particular part of the world. Will we have to wait to have a bridge built in order to reach the rest of the map, a la GTA III?
So can our guardians swim through water?
Just makes me wonder what they are up to. Any thoughts.
TLDR: Large body of water at the bottom of cliff around 2:20 in video. Can guardians swim to reach the other part of the world?

1 ReplyBungie can't program swimming into their games because they're bad.

3 RepliesEverything you might see might be actual geometry in the game, but if they haven't designed things to do in those locations you can be sure that they don't want the players randomly visiting them, otherwise you have the prospects of mapping out several planets or just forcing everything to be on small islands / continents. Gating off areas with instant-kill water I believe is an important tool that Bungie won't neccessarily want to give up.

3 RepliesI assume common sense would tell them to call up their Sparrow.

Hope not

3 RepliesOf course Guardians can swim. Where else do you think they get Fish AI?

2 Repliesits a nice touch that you can tell that Darla was looking through the scope for a couple of seconds.
