Everyone has really good reasons to dog on Halo 4 but I was put off by it for the tiniest details. Halo 4 is like a really hot chick only with a weird nose that sticks out like a sore thumb. I'm not going to go over the major flaws as it is beating a dead horse. Here were my annoyances.
1. Planet Requiem
I had theorized there would be shield planets since Halo 3 when I learned that Bungie got its inspiration from some novels about them, they chose a ring world instead because they did not want to seem like they were stealing ideas. I don't know how those novels went but I was immediately disappointed when I landed on Requiem, it was a world inside a shield. Everyone remembers in CE when they got off the Pillar of Autumn and first set eyes on the ring, it was quite incredible. I would have liked if Requiem was similar to Agartha were the crust was along the inside of the sphere. With maybe a sun in the center or better yet the Diadact's own orb. People would have immediately been brought to their earlier emotions of seeing the landscape curve up the sides of the Horizon. You could imagine looking up at the ceiling and seeing oceans and continents upside down above your head, infact alot of people would think at those first moments, 'This is like Halo x10'. At least they didn't go full Death Star.
2. Forerunners
343 made a new trilogy and in the process changed some of the canon probably to fit their vision and future of the franchise. One thing that depressed me was that Forerunners were no longer humanities ancestors. I realize now this had to be done because humanity needed a new enemy. But originally Forerunners were ancient humans. There were many hints to this for instance Chief is called the Reclaimer, and the Covenant need Sgt. Johnson to activate the Halo array because he was human remember the quote 'You can't start your own party?' I had yearned to find out about the forerunners and even though 343 did not disappoint for me it was souring.
3. Forerunner Architecture
Seeing the hovering pillars was pretty amazing and beautiful, a great new addition. But one thing I hated was that Forerunner ruins had always been blue and silver. In Halo 4 everything was orange. Orange was introduced more or less in Halo 2 and I never felt it belonged in the color pallet, atleast not as a strong color. In past titles orange was reserved for the Flood and Earth levels. The knights were orange aswell everything was orange. Gone in Halo were the purples and blues of past. Cortana is pulsating blue, a remnant of the original beauty of Halo.
Chief's Authority
In past titles Chief was always cut off from the chain of command making Cortana invaluable. I hated every character of the Infinity. In Halo 2 Chief arrived on Earth as a celebrity. On Infinity everyone was an asshole to Chief constantly undermining him. Palmer is obviously going to be the new romance for Chief and the first thing She says is I thought you'd be taller. Like whatta betch. I understand they did this to show that Chief is a soldier and has his own spot in the chain of command but then Chief disobeys direct orders, something a soldier would never do, so if that is the case then they should have never belittled him in the first place no need to show that part of the human aspect. If Chief ever does have time to land on Earth he'd be awarded so many goddamn medals he'd be a 5 star general.
Lastly I couldn't stand how he could teleport and hop around the galaxy so easily, the thing they found on Halo should have just been on Requiem and they follow the Didact to Earth on the last mission. Aslo quick time events or something should have been added to make the boss fight more fun I was not expecting 343 to pull a Fable 2 on us like that.

Get this in your head: science fiction is a genre which is all about taking established ideas, Bungie and 343 are no more or less guilty of this than any other sci-fi writer/designer/artist etc.
I was immediately disappointed when I landed on Requiem, it was a world inside a shield. Also, just because Requiem didn't conform to your exact expectations of what it would look like, that doesn't make it any less impressive for what it is. As Splendid Dust pointed out, Requiem is the only Shield World like this - 0459 and Trevelyan were both pretty much exactly how you described.
2. Forerunners 343 made a new trilogy and in the process changed some of the canon probably to fit their vision and future of the franchise.
No, they didn't.
One thing that depressed me was that Forerunners were no longer humanities ancestors. I realize now this had to be done because humanity needed a new enemy. But originally Forerunners were ancient humans.
You do know that it was Bungie that changed this, right? Humans were Forerunners up until about 2006 where they suddenly changed their minds with IRIS, SOTA, The Cradle of Life and Halo 3's Terminals which made it quite clear that humans and Forerunners are two separate races. And it was just the Ur-Didact who was humanity's enemy in Halo 4. The Librarian states that "the Forerunners made plans for a final Great Journey, but the Didact refused to yield our Mantle of Responsibility". Further to that, in the Rebirth epilogue for Silentium, humanity and the Forerunners make peace with each other on the Ark after the Halos are fired by the IsoDidact.
Reclaimer is the title given to humanity by the Forerunners because we are their successors. Librarian gave humanity the ability to use Forerunner constructs when she stranded herself on Earth, the implication from the sources released by Bungie have all stated that we are supposed to inherit the Mantle which is the exact thematic direction the Reclaimer Saga and Forerunner Trilogy have taken.
3. Forerunner Architecture Seeing the hovering pillars was pretty amazing and beautiful, a great new addition. But one thing I hated was that Forerunner ruins had always been blue and silver. In past titles orange was reserved for the Flood and Earth levels. The knights were orange aswell everything was orange. Gone in Halo were the purples and blues of past. Cortana is pulsating blue, a remnant of the original beauty of Halo.
You do know that each Forerunner caste has extremely distinctive architectural styles, right? The vast majority of architecture we've seen from the Forerunners has been from the Builders, while Halo Wars and Halo 4 shows us Warrior-Servant architecture, and the Keyship from Halo 2/3 is a Lifeworker vessel. Then you've got the Miners who have a completely different style of architecture altogether. The Gatherer is extremely similar to what Bornstellar describes Miner constructs to be like - aesthetically displeasing with groups of of grapplers, lifters, and cutters on their underbellies. Forerunners also used stone to craft some of their temples which can change shape and form, like the Temple of Abiding Truth that Phillips is in on Sanghelios in The Thursday War. This sort of thing was also seen on Delta Halo during Halo 2, but in an inert form. Forerunners don't just have one style of architecture, you know? The same way we don't have one style of architecture. It varies greatly across cultures and time, and the Forerunners have been around for over ten million of years as a space-faring race. We have seen the smallest glimpse of what they've built in a time period of about 10,000 years. We're obviously going to be seeing things which are a departure from that as we see deeper into their society and technological capabilities, it'd be terribly dull if we found ourselves in the same grey buildings again and again every time a Forerunner structure was encountered...
Chief's Authority On Infinity everyone was an asshole to Chief constantly undermining him.
Er... as I recall, it's just Del Rio and Palmer who 'undermine' him. Lord of Admirals has gone into an incredibly lengthy analysis of Del Rio's character and why his attitude towards John is understandable.
Palmer is obviously going to be the new romance for Chief
Yeah, no... There has been absolutely no romantic build-up between them at all and she's in the same room as him about 3 times throughout the entire game. If anything, there's more romantic tension evident between her and Lasky throughout Spartan Ops.
Chief disobeys direct orders, something a soldier would never do, so if that is the case then they should have never belittled him in the first place no need to show that part of the human aspect.
Please tell me that you're not implying that John disobeys Del Rio because he and Palmer 'undermined' him...
Lastly I couldn't stand how he could teleport and hop around the galaxy so easily
Er... what? You are familiar with slipspace travel being an essential part of the Halo universe, yes? You are aware that it has been said for years that Forerunner slipspace drives are infinitely superior to anything humanity and the Covenant has. Also, the Ur-Didact makes a grand total of 2 slipspace jumps - Requiem to Ivanoff Station and Ivanoff Station to Earth.
the thing they found on Halo should have just been on Requiem
For somebody who has been talking so much about the story, surely you have enough common sense to know why this would make absolutely no sense at all? "He would have encrypted your entire race if we had not removed the Composer from his care and imprisoned him here," is what Librarian tells us when John meets her in the Reclaimer mission. Why exactly would she leave the Composer with the Didact when he's been mind r@ped into insanity by the Gravemind and has used the Composer to assimilate some of her only remaining specimens of humans? The mission on Ivanoff Station is an absolutely pivotal point for both John and Cortana's characters, there would be absolutely no sense in taking it away - the human backdrop is an essential part of this development, the Infinity left the previous mission so there's no way your idea could work without sacrificing a huge part of the development of the two main characters. Simply put, your issues with Halo 4 are based mostly on outdated information.

2 RepliesYour a dickhead who pays no attention to any of the story. Read the books again, play the games again. I really hate people that talk Shit about things that they don't know about.
I sound like fox news oh god.
1 ReplyYou know what? For the first time in a VERY long time.
10/10
Even though I know what this is, I can tell you actually were creative with it. Bravo, sir.

Edited by PandaJerk007: 10/27/2013 5:24:56 AMWell these are some better reasons to dislike the game than many of the complaints people around here have about the game.
when I landed on Requiem, it was a world inside a shield.
Maybe the shield was actually a dormant Unicron that had consumed the planet in the past...

4 RepliesThese aren't stupid reasons, they're what i don't like in halo 4, too. All that stuff kinda just ruins the way halo usually felt. Halo 4 played for the most part like any other halo game. However, it didn't feel like one. Having almost direct contact with the forerunners kinda ruined it for me. I was so used to the forerunners being part of the lore and just background, but when they were the main focus, it made me feel that the covenant was sidelined, and not important anymore.

Shield worlds were done in GoO and Wars.

5 RepliesThreads like these always crack me up. Some guy tries to undermine the Halo 4 plot and then the lore buffs come and put him in his place. Classic.

You know, I was gonna say something, but Chronarch and LOA already said what needed to be said.

Forerunners were only implied to be humanity's ancestors; in truth, we were just favoured by them. As for the Dyson sphere, that's what I expected too.

A boss that could disintegrate the floor at the snap of his fingers is not a fun boss.
