So far we've only seen gameplay of Dungeons, and dungeons are linear by nature!

2 RepliesAfter the ps4 launch video do you guys still think it doesn't look linear

7 RepliesData Collated. Brief Analysis: No. Justification: The spaces utilised for the demonstrations have substantial expanses. To use the E3 example, the section of 'Old Russia' that was displayed included one approach avenue, one entrance, one route through the wall, one exit and one annex of the larger complex. To suggest that this displayed route is the only possible one in the finished product is naive. Considering that a large part of Destiny's appeal is its sandbox nature, having one "highway" into a playspace would direct player flow toward consistent locations, thus hampering the very exploration that Bungie keeps shunting. Counter Justification: But we only saw the same route used again and again and whilst there was some slight variation in pathing, the playspaces were always consistent. Rebuttal: True, however, this is simply because the other sections of this playspace were opted out of as suitable for the demonstration due to any one of a number of factors (insufficient polish, incomplete rendering, undesired spoilers, etc.). This, combined with an actual behaviour script designed to show off particular aspects of gameplay/environment, created the repetition that we experienced. Furthermore, once the public event is activated, other fireteams approach from several different vectors by a number of different means, something that would be unfeasible in a linear playspace.

2 RepliesI would assume that it will play like many other games of the sort... The world( or planets) will be very open to explore wherever you like however once you enter a "dungeon" it will be somewhat linear! Fallout 3 was like this and was one of my favorite games of all time!

I'm taking it that we should be hoping the final product is different!?!

1 ReplyReading some of your replies, in this thread OP, you must be the most idiotic immature member I've seen.
-
2 RepliesNo. Areas/environments/play-spaces have been confirmed as virtually fully playable.
-
1 ReplyYou mean the Demo right? They are typically linear. As for the game we don't have enough information.
-
1 ReplyIn the videos we have seen they are showing a mission or exploring a certain thing. They had a limited time to do it. It doesn't mean it's linear
-
1 ReplyIn the one of the initial E3 demos it was hinted that all the area around Old Russia was explorable.
-
1 ReplyIf you watched the behind closed doors e3 demo then like someone else said at old Russia everything you see is explorable
-
3 RepliesI'll let you know once the game is out.

1 ReplyLook, people expecting an open world are going to be disappointed. Bungie has referred to different missions and levels. If they were going for a completely open world experience, they'd tell us, that's kind of a big deal. Think KOTOR or Mass Effect level design. You choose where to go and when, but I'm guessing the levels themselves will be very Halo-esque. Large corridors with multiple avenues, yet all still pretty linear.

1 ReplyIt could be like .hack// where its a relatively open world with little dungeons, which are bit more linear, here and there. Or it could be like t.o.g or tower of druaga where its a giagantic linearly advancing mechanism but each level by itself is massive in general

1 ReplyDo we know about levels in Destiny yet?
-
3 RepliesSeeing as we have yet to scratch, no.
-
3 RepliesI can't say because I haven't played it yet, but from what I've seen it doesn't look linear.
-
2 RepliesEdited by MastaSin: 10/8/2013 3:38:35 PMI'm gonna say no, because I haven't seen enough to tell.
-
5 RepliesWe have literally only seen 1/100th of one "level". You have absolutely no grounds to suggest that.
-
4 RepliesNot enough information available to make a valid conclusion.

Collating... ... ... ... ... ... ...

8 Repliesthis is a really stupid question and has zero substance to it . how can you even ask this question yet when the game isn't even out yet ?
-
1 ReplyThere will be many linear objectives I'm sure, but the world as a whole is said to be open. Only time will tell, it's way too early. I'm willing to bet the beta won't even accurately reflect this.

4 RepliesThese kind of questions I find silly. How can anyone think these kind of things without actually playing the game. Bungie wants this game to be pretty in depth. Your character is going to go with you through the next games to come. Having linear levels doesn't even make sense if you only know that.
