With the wide variety of guns in this game there's no reason that some couldn't be hitscan, while some had travel time. Say I pick up a sniper rifle that requires me to lead my target. That could be a 'negative' to the rifle, but it has the ability to penetrate multiple targets, deal extra damage, etc. I have to choose how important all these abilities are and if it falls into my playstyle or not. The guns can easily be split, some being hit scan, some requiring a lead. There's no reason that any weapon has to share a uniform feature across it for all variations. This is a game about customization and building your character to your style of play. Not only that, but it tailors to all aspects of the Destiny fan-base. The less skilled players have a wide assortment of options to choose from, while the more experienced have just the same. The more difficult guns to use bring with them better benefits. It rewards not only the skill of the player, but their understanding of what weapon is best for them.

I prefer to lead, but with a controller it's a bit difficult.

You mean projectiles?

1 ReplyI get tired of hearing about bullet travel time and bullet drop. In most games, you never fight in an area big enough for those factors to take effect anyway.
-
1 ReplyI agree with what others have said about hitscan being better/easier to network. But I prefer hitscan because its easier to imagine that humanity has developed some kind of improvement on ballistics in the next several hundred years to increase muzzle velocity

I'll say it this way... I like how rockets had travel times in Halo, but would not care for how I had to lead shots with a sniper rifle. Bullet- or pellet-based weapons would be best done with hitscan. It eliminates the necessary brain-work and fine-tuned aim skills that have to go into shooting in a game, especially when you aren't doing so with a mouse. The bullet travel time and drop inherently raises the learning curve for many players, especially when they don't realize that their gun is subject to those effects. More upfront predictability in how combat works will make for more accessible and fun combat.

Destiny has seven pillars. One of them is:
Pillar 6: Enjoyable By All Skill Levels -- We want everybody who wants to play "Destiny" to be able to play "Destiny." All core activities can be enjoyed by novice players.
Having to lead shots is definitely not fun for novice players. We shouldn't see it in Destiny.

1 ReplyLead targets because wheres the fun in easy?
-
i prefer lead target for a more realistic approach. i mean at closer range it won't really matter but a sniper shot should require alittle skill at least.
-
Lead the target, so much more fun

What games nowadays use hitscan?
-
Lead target I too much like a hunting game.

1 ReplyI would prefer lead targets if they implemented wind and such to make it more of a challenge and it would also take more skill. Plus you would feel much more accomplished after shooting a long range sniper shot.
