Gay rights groups are calling for a boycott of the world’s biggest pasta maker Barilla after the company’s chairman said he would never use homosexual couples in his advertisements.
Guido Barilla, whose firm has almost half the Italian pasta market and a quarter of that in the US, told Italy’s La Zanzara radio show last night: “I would never do an advert with a homosexual family…if the gays don’t like it they can go an eat another brand.
“For us the concept of the sacred family remains one of the fundamental values of the company.”
He added: “Everyone has the right to do what they want without disturbing those around them”. But then the pasta magnate upped the ante by attacking gay adoption. “I have no respect for adoption by gay families because this concerns a person who is not able to choose," he said.
Well, there is also the point of wanting to sell food, not making people vomit.

Eh gay groups are just looking for something to get offended by. He never said it was wrong or you shouldn't do it, it just doesnt fit their image. Looks like I'll be buying Barilla now to combat this silly boycott.

1 ReplyMaybe we should boycott the next company that doesn't feature blind crippled lesbian muslim jewish lemon flavored aliens.
-
I think homosexual rights activists have more important things to look at, like gay adoption and marriage. Waste of time to get mad about this sort of thing.
-
>Says people should do what they want > Says gays shouldn't adopt

1 Replythe three ingrediants to start a RL flame war 1. Racism 2. Government 3. Gays

It's their business. And it's their right to run it as they see fit. If you don't like it, then don't buy from them, it's really quite that simple.
-
1 ReplyAnyone who is mad about this is a politically correct invertebrate.

LOOOOOOOOOOOOOL Just realized his name is Guido.

I can understand his point in some ways, does the Dolmio advert having some fanatical gay rights activist in the family? No, it has a family, with the mother cooking the meal, it gives a sense of old traditional values, and connotes a quickly home made product rather than a factory line product with no love to it. I haven't heard of these guys at all, nor have I seen any of their adverts, but still, I can at least understand slightly that he may mean he doesn't want to use the whole gay family approach just to be different and gt some publicity via his ads. Otherwise, he could just be homophobic and what everybody assumes by what he said could be true.

I never ate that pasta brand anyway.
-
I hope she made lots of spaghetti.
-
I don't see why this makes the lgbt community mad, it isn't like they are denying them food or jobs, just that they won't be making a commercial with gay couples. Who cares.

On the plus side for gays. Has anyone seen the uniform for Germany's team in the Russian Winter Olympics? They are wearing the gay pride colours. And then stating that it isn't a stand against the anti-gay laws in Russia.
Barilla
I'm sorry, who?
Guido Barilla, whose firm has almost half the Italian pasta market and a quarter of that in the US
Never heard of 'em.

Well, there is also the point of wanting to sell food, not making people vomit.
Gotta love the troll feast that is bungie.net ... ironic that bungie allows the same attitudes to exist (on a site under its direct control) that the OP starts off highlighting. And OP, if you can't stomach a picture which has two same sex couples appearing in a single frame ... how did you cope when your uncles/brothers walked into the kitchen at the same time ... honestly? Not even brave enough to ask what happened during school after sport/gym when you all had to shower? Or is it in your mind that same sex couples simply have to strip off and get some jiggy on at first sight? What I do love though, is that the small minded fools who make this type of comment have no idea that they have most likely have already had homosexual individuals (acting as couples - on one or both sides) in the past, and paid them and the production company (who may also have had homosexuals working for them).
-
Well no shit, they are a company and most people who make commercials don't put homosexual people in them as it would start a shitstorm

If I make a shoe lace repair store, I have every right to operate it the way I see fit. If I have an opinion I have every damn right to say it. Sure I might lose customers, but I have every right to make those choices for myself. Yeah I think it's a stupid thing to go out and say that shit, but he has every right to do so.

2 RepliesSo what if he said that he doesn't like gays. Can he not say what he thinks?

SHOTS FIRED!
The amount of butthurt from this might gather so much mass so fast it could collapse into a black hole.
His name is Guido? OT: The only thing that influences what pasta I buy is the numbers following the dollar sign. And if Barilla happens to be the cheapest that day, I'm not going to lose sleep over that,

1 Reply>quarter of the US market I can see them getting a bit of boost from retarded-ass conservatives now, similar to what happened with Chic-fil-A. Good marketing strategy.

This just in: Pasta and gay rights have everything to do with each other.
