I think it's ridiculous to reject someone because of their beliefs. I'm a Christian, and my girlfriend (was an athiest) is agnostic, and I love her more than anything else in the world. Now if they are radicals, that's a different story. I hate radicals of any nature.

  • Disagree. If I were to attempt to have kids with a religious person, I wouldn't be able to simply because I wouldn't raise my kids as religious believers. Especially when children's minds are so malleable.

  •
I think you should be able to explain to your kids, mommy believes in this religion, daddy does not. Let the kids decide what they want to believe.
Well it isn't a problem for me and my gf.

  • No, I still disagree. A child's mind is more malleable. If you tell them there is a man in the sky, they will believe it. If you tell them there isn't, afterwards, they won't believe you. It's not until you see the evidence (which is a bit complex for a child to understand) that you begin to realize the legitimacy of the [insert religious book here] is in question.

  • What proof does either party have? Science cannot de bunk God, only 'debunk' the Bible, and Bible bashers cannot debunk science, I.E. evolution. Both parties are inconclusive, both parties have a lack of evidence, both parties spew theory, both parties are wrong. No one will ever know the truth of what 'is' and what ''isn't'' while still breathing on Earth. This fact is irrefutable, and intolerable.

  • Pfft. People tell their kids about a man in the North Pole all the time, and they have no difficulty un-believing in him later. Malleability goes both ways. That's kind of the definiton. Plus, with Santa, there's an actual physical incentive to believe in him.

  • Except with Santa, there's no worshipping going The difference is, between grow out of believing in Santa. The don't grow out of believing in the a deity because there is "proof".

  • If there was proof, we'd all be religious. I don't think your worries hold much ground. I was raised a Mormon, and now I'm not. Half the atheists here were probably once religious! And if your future spouse is willing to marry you, she (or he?!) isn't going to be so devout that they'll indoctrinate your kids or anything. And if you're not telling the kids there's a man in the sky, they aren't going get too religious anyway. Also, if your only issue with marrying a religious person is that they'd make your kids religious, why would you care if your kids were religious?

Fortunately, I possess the required intelligence to examine proven science-fact and differentiate from biblical canon. You do realize science is theory.. It tickles my funny bone when I hear any man, of any nature, from any point of view, claim science to be fact. When the Fact of the matter is, science is theory, religion is theory. It is all theory. Your fact based believe, is actually a theory based believe, you just choose one theory over another. This applies to anything, and everything when broken down to its based component. Am I wrong? please, spew more theory at me, but know this, My opinion is just a theory as well.

  • I'm not averse to religious people. At all. Every single member of my friends and family are theists.

  • And yet you refuse to marry one and are afraid of your future kids becoming religious. But you're not at all averse to religious people?

  • No, I refuse to marry someone who ignores scientific fact. And I refuse to let them spoil the mental ability of my children with ridiculous fairy tales about talking snakes.

Your definition must be an acceptable version, because if you believe in the Christian God (and most other deities) that's contradictory.

  •
No, I refuse to marry someone who ignores scientific fact.
Being religious doesn't mean ignoring scientific fact.
And I refuse to let them spoil the mental ability of my children with ridiculous fairy tales about talking snakes.
You were raised religious: do you feel your "mental ability" was compromised? You say you're not averse to religious people, but you clearly don't think much of their mental faculties.
