Destiny is doing exactly that. Taking great things like procedural weapons from Borderlands, and making it so you can upgrade them and make it more personal. There's other examples like ADS; taking the mechanic and flipping it over by changing how it works and making hip-fire still present. The best games get noticed and developers take what made it get noticed. It's just like that for everything. Destructible environments though, yeah I couldn't care less but some people might want it. Just forcing your opinion on them is being stupid and closed minded.
