OK, there is a discussion in which it is being said that private security guards are in fact, police officers. And that anyone who patrols, or polices, an area, is also a police officer.
I am confused by this, so maybe I'm missing out on a concept or something.

3 RepliesEdited by Section Ratio General: 9/15/2013 12:58:35 AMWhoever said that is mentally deficient. Really, comparing a rent-a-cop to an actual police officer is an embarrassment to police officers. Edit: Also, policing the mall on a segwey is so OP, lol

Edited by SuperIrish: 9/14/2013 11:21:21 AMPolice are the public sector security (governmental), and security guards are private sector (superstores, museums, what have you). I guess it depends on what they are guarding to have the ability to arrest. It gets more confusing when you add Community Officers (which can only perform a citizens arrest or detain you and depending on where you are in the UK, might not even have handcuffs to arrest you).

I'm not sure if a citizen's arrest counts as an actual law enforcement arrest.

Security guards are not policies.

7 RepliesSecurity guards don't have the authority to arrest.

11 RepliesPretty sure police work for the state and can make arrests.

6 RepliesPolice are those that work for official police departments...who was saying that private security personnel are police?

Edited by M37h3w3: 9/13/2013 8:49:15 PMDon't bother Charlie. You're right but Camnator won't see reason. Even if the rest of the public sides with you and calls him out, he's like Cartman from South Park: He will go through the most insane mental gymnastics to remain "right" and "correct"

So Zimmerman was a cop? Cool.
