They could have just made an adapter that connects to your TV and priced it for about £10 ($15) - £15 ($23). But instead they come up with that "Vita TV" which will likely cost over £100.
Sony: Here, we made this £100+ box that can stream all of you Vita and PS4 games when in reality we could have just made a cable that connects to your Vita and would serve the same purpose.
Sony Consumers: Yeah! Take that MS. Sony isn't trying to shaft us in any way possible.

1 ReplyI just don't understand why so many people claim to have a use for this. I'm not sitting in my room playing my Xbox or PC then suddenly get the urge to play it in my parents' room.
-
3 RepliesBecause the best way to save the Vita is to make a newer, gimped, gimmicky version instead of actually releasing games for it. /Sony logic

1 ReplyBecuase money makes the world go round.

11 RepliesBecause people love gimmicks.

They also could have implemented that small 10x6cm box into the PS4. Have the PS4 able to stream to another TV natively, have a slot for VITA games. Pair this with the Dualshock 4, and the 'VITA TV' becomes better. Right now, the VITA TV isn't able to play VITA games that requires a touch pad. The dualshock 4 has a touchpad. But they'd rather cut features out from the PS4 and sell it for extra.

1 ReplyEdited by CostlyAxis: 9/11/2013 1:49:31 AMI view it as a product not aimed at people who already own a Vita, but more so to people that don't own a Vita. From that perspective, it looks to be a good product for those not in the handheld market, but want access to the Vita platform.

1 ReplyI say why not both. the vita tv is really cool. But me personally i just want the cable .

10 Replies'Why didn't they make a cable of limited linear length instead of a box with a broadcast range that would most likely fit most of your house comfortably?'
-
This is rich coming from you.
-
2 RepliesBut it wouldn't serve the same purpose. They're making a Playstation set top box. It's cheap, it has Netflix, YouTube, and every other video service, it goes well with your Playstation ecosystem if you own a PS4, and it plays games.

Edited by FungalPsychosis: 9/11/2013 6:29:54 PMBecause it saves me from buying a Vita and is $100 less. It will also let me stream PS4 games to any other TV in the house. I don't see how this is a bad thing. I'm not going to get it, I will get a Vita to play stuff on the go and for Remote Play, but I can see why people would get it.

Cause that's how you do it in the ghettos. Idk, they just want our money.

4 RepliesSony is just being really gimmicky right now. Aside from the Kinect, which will always look gimicky (we will find out how much less or more gimicky it is at launch), Microsoft is doing good things this time around.
-
10 RepliesBecause Sony was worried about Ouya taking a huge part of the market they want since both are indie boxes. At least the vita is small enough you can hide its ugliness.
yay for streaming indie games everywhere!
6 RepliesDoes the Vita have any sort of video/data out on it? Doubt it. Now why they didn't add an HDMI out on the new Vita is kinda weird, but then again, it would probably cannibalize the sales of the Vita TV. Anyway, I see the Vita TV as a response towards micro-consoles, where they have a huge advantage of being an actual reputable company more than anything else. From that, it makes sense to use the Vita as a platform due to it's capabilities of playing PS, PSP, and some Vita games, which instantly gives it a pretty huge library. At the same time, it shows that their idea of the portable market and what type of product that would work in it was completely off base with reality.

What did you call it... lolVita? Don't worry, I'm not going to even judge... Anyway, there's a very simple reason why Sony can't just release a 'adapter'; Psvita doesn't have video out. Perhaps they could have refreshed the new model to include an HDMI out port, like the dev-kits, but they didn't. Only hope for current Vita owners to play through a TV set is for software based streaming of vita games to TV via PS4. On another note, vitaTV is pretty cool and I could see it easily outselling vita handhelds ten times over - streaming PS4 games to any TV is quite huge and the ability to play Vita, PSP, PS1 games makes it a fun little box to supplement the forthcoming PS4. It all sounds great on paper, we'll see how the end results look.

It was a decent idea, but I wish it was wireless..

1 ReplyVita TV is cheaper, about $100 instead of $199 Significantly cheaper manufacturing costs, no OLED or touch screens/pad Already sold out on Amazon.jp

1 ReplyEdited by Winters Darkseid: 9/11/2013 2:14:37 AMBecause Sony is infallible and saying anything bad about them makes you a Micro$oft fanboy. /Sarcasm, in case you're going to try incenerating me.

2 RepliesThey should have just made it synch with the ps4 and streamed through that.
-
1 ReplyOr they could make some games for the Vita.
