Nintendo will be launching a new portable gaming system in October. It's called the Nintendo 2DS. It's a 3DS without the 3D, and it's shaped like a thin piece of cake.
"This is an entry-level handheld gaming system," Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime told Kotaku earlier this week when we got our hands on the unusual device.
Seriously, Nintendo has a problem.

I agree the 2DS looks kinda dumb

6 RepliesIt's a 3DS minus the hinge to close it. One of the things I like about my 3DS and Vita that I often take for granted is that they easily fit in my freakin' pocket. This 2DS looks bulky (which you don't want in a game system that is supposed to go with you everywhere...), and it looks cheap (innovation is more than just removing a hinge. Glaring at you, Nintendo...). This is a desperate grab for cash in the face of financial annihilation once the Xbox One and the PS 4 come out in a mere two months. Gamers; we're witnessing the first signs of panic from the venerable Nintendo Co. LTD.

2 RepliesWhoever thinks this is a bad a idea is nuts. The 3DS is expensive...really expensive, especially for parents who are buying it for their kids, which is where most of the sales are coming from. Now they have a cheap, sturdier looking alternative that, BIG SURPRISE HERE, comes out on the same day as Pokemon X and Y. It's funny. The day before it came out I was talking to my friend about possibly buying a 3DS. I told him I thought about it, but decided not to because it was expensive, and the 3D is blurry and gives me a headache. Now I have a good alternative. I just wished it folded -_-

4 RepliesWhy the -blam!- doesn't it fold up? Lets say I want to get the thing and carry it on me. How the hell am I supposed to put that inside my pocket? I'm not going to carry the damn thing in my hand or get a shoulder bag for it. They went full retard when it came to the design.

Besides it looking like shit I don't mind that two much, you can't fold it so it's length is a problem, but really, it would be nice if it played Game Boy Advance games as well if they're giving it the ability to also play 3DS and DS games.

It looks ugly.

2 RepliesThe crap that this has been getting is beyond retarded. This is a great idea, a way to cheapen the 3DS by removing the useless 3D function that is barely used anyway, what is the problem here?
-
Oh good, they made more Nintendium.
-
Damn it, Nintendo, GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER. I swear, I've gotten a similar handheld in a Happy Meal....
-
13 RepliesIt's exactly what you whiny -blam!- wanted once the 3DS was announced in 2011! and it's more durable and won't snap in 2
-
Yeah... And people say Nintendo shouldn't drop out of the hardware market... I've said it before and I'll say it again, they should be like Sega and just make games.
-
4 RepliesSo it's a cheap, ugly 3DS minus 3D capabilities. I imagine it'll sell well to children and gamers without a lot of spare cash to throw around, but seriously Nintendo, you need to learn how to -blam!-ing name things.

Edited by ToastyWaffles: 8/29/2013 10:08:38 AMMaking a cheaper version of the 3DS without the 3D is a good idea. It should be able to fold up though.

2 RepliesWhat's with all the hate? This is supposed to be for young children. It has no hinge so it's much more durable. Anyways, I've been wanting to get a 3DS for Pokemon and Smash Bros. I might get this because it's much cheaper than a standard 3DS. Also, the fact that it has the same functionality as a 3DS except for 3D, which I would never have on anyways, is great. So this is actually a pretty cool thing in my eyes.
-
It's a perfect idea for kids, it has no hinge so kids can't bend it and break it. The thickness of it will probably make sure it won't break as easily if dropped, then there's the pad shape where kids can place it on a flat surface and just play like that if the game involves more use of the touch screen, then there's the lack of 3D (which honestly nobody likes) which kids probably would have a hard time getting used to.
-
6 RepliesThat's 200$ it's worth 50% of what the new consoles will costs yet it doesn't even do 10% of what they do. Nintendo is eating crap.
-
I don't see the problem. Nintendos just expanding its customer base in a market(Handhelds) they dominate. Whats the problem here?
-
3 Replies......Can't kids just turn the 3D off?
-
1 ReplyGo home Nintendo, you're drunk.

2 RepliesEdited by Spawn: 8/28/2013 6:52:04 PMDay 1 Hint: It's designed for 6 year olds.
