TL;DR but why doesn't Bungie just allow us to make our own controls/control remapping? It's 2013. Is customizability too much to ask for? Skyrim did it.

Customization, while generally a good thing, wouldn't be very helpful with the system I described. One of it's key features is keeping the thumbs free, and putting all magic combos on the triggers. Since two triggers are already in use for aim and shoot (necessities).. that only leaves two triggers. The only two layouts that make sense is just swapping the triggers that do magic and shooting.. but that's pretty much it. This system would also cancel out the option for Bungie's original control scheme that has melee on R1. It wouldn't make sense to do magic combo's with any other two buttons if a trigger is being used for something like melee (IMO, Rb is an odd choice for melee, that is limited to Halo).

Control mapping in multiplayer games is a balance issue. Some controller setups could be unfair.
Control mapping in multiplayer games is a balance issue. Some controller setups could be unfair.
How? Everyone has the option to make whichever controls they wish, no one can't make controls as another person would.

Duncan is right. In multiplayer/co-operative games, controller remapping just adds TOO MANY variables to balancing. Both PvP and PvE. Skyrim is a single-player game, you shouldn't compare the two.
-
Certain button combinations can yield unfair results(see: Halo 2's BxR). If you bound your controller to make this combination easier to pull off, the game would become unfair.
-
Anyone else could yield the same output or choose the same controls, it isn't unfair, some people are just smarter with their choices.

Just because everyone is unfair, doesn't make it fair. There will always be people who can't get the combos down. I agree that control mapping would be great for Destiny's single player, but because of the competitive multiplayer, we may get preset controller layouts.

There will always be people who can't get any controls down regardless of mapping. That doesn't make it fair or unfair because a player is more skilled than another. And who knows, the less skilled player could potentially play better with a different set up simply because he or she is more comfortable. I think it'll do nothing but better the gameplay rather than creating unfair advantages as you suggest.

I see your point though, still disagree but thanks.

As far as I know, there aren't any combos, like in street fighter... I see what you mean but if this is a game like Halo, control mapping wouldn't matter to me.
