Based on the concept art it looks like they have the typical robot head. Isn't wearing a helmet a bit redundant? Just thought it was a bit funny all of the sudden.

I guess for extra protection and to look cool.

Why put a ballistic plate over kevlar? I mean, you're already bullet resistant.

1 ReplyWhy would Exo need male and female versions?
-
The Exos we're put out out of service before the collapse and reawakened by the Traveller. I'll bet that nobody knows how to repair them, they are as precious and fragile as Humans and will want to protect themselves.
-
Human needs a helmet to protect its brain, so a robot is protecting its micro chips or whatever

Edited by HeadlessFire: 4/27/2014 6:26:24 PMI think its because the infrastructure of an Exo may be similar to that of a human. For example, the CPU would be placed where the brain is, and the Power core in place of the heart.

If I shot you in the face, whst would happen?

Extra layers to help stop all those nasty bullets/lasers/plasma/bees and whatnot frying your circuits.
-
Too protect there head? What else do you wear one for??

3 RepliesEdited by Interferometer: 4/25/2014 10:42:59 PMWell, to answer this, we must go to metallurgy. To begin, we have to establish that we do not know what type of metal an exo skeleton utilizes. If not a singular base, perhaps a combination of materials. For example, Nickle and Copper together (NICU) are great for strength and have the benefit to resist things like corrosion is seawater. The combination of the two is typically 70/30 or 90/10 ratio. It all depends on the application and need. So, since we do not know the need of an exo skeleton, nor do we know the atmospheric conditions of Earth in Destiny (C'mon, we travel to other planets too), we must assume that the exo uses metals that are lightest as possible and simultaneously have a function of strength to hold itself together. Strength in terms of stress and strain when moving, jumping, landing (gravity is a bitch). Turning left to aim at some retarded fallen while running forward exerts a stress on joints. To maximize the performance of the exo, armor is needed so that one dark-blessed bullet doesn't cause the stress capacity of a piece of exo skeleton to fail due to an impulse spike of force. Trust me, I'm an Exo. Besides, I'd like to hide my "I'll keel you" face when in a diplomatic peace talk. That.....and, after my cigarette-vendor-of-a-father died from a jammed quarter, my smile has never been the same.

3 RepliesSo we Exos can look even more badass! Like the terminator wearing sunglasses.

1 Replyhelmets r cool

For protection?

You ever play dark souls, lookin like a bacon zombie? Imagine that with a female robot wizard... It would totally ruin the seriousness of the game Duh
-
To protect the central processing unit as well as optic and audio sensory systems. Helmets could also provide an easily customizable display and information unit.

1 ReplyIf I'm not mistaken.. I thought Exo were cyborgs? (cyborg is a being with both organic and mechanical parts). They also have memories, which mean they must have a brain? and a brain needs oxygen, so their helmets supply their oxygen when they are in space.
-
To protect the circuits... Duh ;)

Optimus prime wears armor every chance he gets and he's 25 feet tall.

3 RepliesWhy do space magic marines wear capes? Why is the sky blue? How many licks to the center of a tootsie pop?
-
Because some Exos are self-conscious about how their facial features were constructed.
duh
3 RepliesEdited by Glitched: 4/26/2014 12:24:54 AM
Kinda funny, why would an Exo need a helmet?
The same reason you would need a helmet, I suppose. You do not want a bullet messin' up that cranium of yours, even if you are a robot. Also, we do not fully know what the Exos truly are quite yet. Before, Bungie said they were 'war machines', so everybody started saying they are robots. Then there was that weekly update with the 'Space Pimp', in which they mentioned an "artificial beating heart". This could mean that Exos have living synthetic tissues, underneath a hard robotic exoskeleton, hence Exo. If that's the case, they may have squishy brains like you and me, so helmets are kind of a necessity, even with a metal face. And if they are more akin to cyborgs, they may require oxygen for their synthetic tissues to operate, so a helmet would be needed in Space and on other celestial bodies, like the Moon. In summary; Futuristic bullets, energy bursts, and Space Magic can most likely go through metal faces. Faces and their accompanying heads are important, so Exos wear helmets to improve their survivability. Also a helmet could provide the Exo with valuable information via HUD. http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post?id=64372482&groupId=66694

Because...
Why not.
To provide protection to their CPU's and Sentient Being Solid State Prism Drives that hold the full capacity of their memory. Same reasons why humans wear helmets: Brain damage can occur.
