I'm really not sure which console is right for me, now that Microsoft has reversed it's policies on Always Online and DRM.
I love the Xbox controller and HATE PlayStation Dualshock controllers. It would just be very uncomfortable to switch now.
However $100 is a lot of money to me.
Pretty much every Next-gen game I'm interested in is going to be a multiplat, with the exception of Halo 5.
Of course, most of my friends are going with Sony for the next-gen.
So I'm wondering, will I have to have Kinect hooked up to play games and use the Xbox One? Because if I do, that's a dealbreaker.

There is a TON of misinformation floating around here. The Kinect must be plugged in to the console. You can manually turn it off, and keep it off, in the system settings. So it is NOT required to function.

3 RepliesDon't use a Dualshock controller then? You can buy controllers for PS3 just like the Xbox. I prefer them myself, I hate the analog stick positions on the Xbox. And yes, you have to use Kinect. You won't have to use it in games, but it has to be turned on I think.
-
4 RepliesYes, you are forced to use the kinect, and the PS4 controller is bigger than the Xbox's btw.
-
4 RepliesThe PS4 controller is bigger now then PS3's. and seems a bit bigger then X1's. Kinecet is needed to play games. They are going with "future if gaming" and "being innovative" on a gimmek since they just made the Kinect to get in the motion control games because f the Wii's (surprising) success.
-
2 RepliesI think this is a new way to actualy use the f ing thing in games as now developers know everyone has one now

7 RepliesThe Kinect won't be a necessity to use, it just needs to be plugged in. Anyone telling you that it records information that you don't tell it to isn't too knowledgeable. But the systems will also do different things, in terms of features. The PS4 seems like it will be able to do what the Xbox 360 does now, play games, stream music and videos, game chat, the like. Xbox One does that plus some. Be sure to do as much research as possible. And don't assume that everyone has actually fact checked, including myself.

4 RepliesEdited by Uiginn: 7/15/2013 12:24:39 AMI would wait to see over the next few months if they decide to not require the, "EYE". Maybe even wait until after it launches for the chance that their might be a better choice in the future. The eye sucks because not many people like to shout commands at their TV, especially the little kids who try to stealthily play their games without getting into trouble. Another reason is when you talk to someone in a party with the Kinect everyone hates you for the super annoying echo. There are many more reasons why people hate it too. The big deal, is that the, "EYE" is always watching, and always recording. Who knows what Microsoft is doing with this information that they can so easily collect from us? And a lot of todays home appliances and personal devices will be doing this too if they are not already: Recording even though you hit the off button. I am not the only one saying this too, this news is kind of big. Hopefully the PS4 will sell more than the Xbox One, or the people make a big enough deal about it, and the Xbox will be forced to change. Because I like Halo, and the Xbox controller too. Today there is adapters you can get that allow you to play the PS3 with an Xbox 360 controller. Maybe there will be one after the new consoles come out. Sorry for rambling, and going a little off topic.

Just get a ps4 so your friends dont think you're being an arse The dual shock 4 is a bigger step up than previous models, with a touchpad, sixaxis and a speaker, i have no idea why M$ are charging the same price for their controller

I think I'll just hack my Xbox Eye so that the console will start without me feeling insecure. Cut off my sound and voice recognition too if possible.

Xbox One requires a Kinect to function. So if it breaks or you unplug it then you can't use the console.
-
1 ReplyThe kinect has to be on if you're naked. Otherwise its fine
-
It needs to be on at all times so Microsoft can tell if you have Mountain Dew and Doritos in the room.
-
1 ReplyYup, has to be plugged in ecru time you want to use your console. And btw don't hate on the new dual shock, trust me people are saying its very comfortable.

7 RepliesYou have to have it plugged in for the Xbox to work. You can shut down most of it's functions but it will NEVER EVER be completely switched off. This is the main reason I am buying a PS4 and I have never owned a PS before.
-
2 RepliesIt's entirely harmless, but I believe they've said that you'll be able to power it down.
-
6 RepliesIt has to be plugged in but it can be turned off.

It needs to be plugged in, but you can turn it off if you don't want to use it.

I think the kinect has to be on while you play. Personally, I love voice commands and I use them in skyrim and mass effect all the time. If the kinect becomes a standard feature then more games will include these features.
