What do you think ACTUAL WWII veterans think of games like Call of Duty?
I just finished watching "Saving Private Ryan" and I recognized all of the weapons they fought with from Call of Duty 3. So I started thinking; If a WWII veteran were to see one of their grandchildren playing CoD, what would they think about it? would they find it realistic to actual events in WWII? or would they just find the game insulting to the actual violence that took place?
what do you guys think?
(FYI, eating spaghetti while watching Saving Private Ryan= bad idea...)

Both my parents served in North Africa in WWII. They hardly ever talked about it. My dad would have found the game technically interesting; he was an aerospace engineer and got an iPad when he was 89. My mother would have been interested in what I was interested in. The reality of the military is very seldom portrayed accurately.

1 Replymy grandpa was an engineer in WWII, but what baffles me is, while he actually fought in the war, when he's home now, all he does is watch the history channel episodes of WWII and watches all the "war" movies like Saving Private Ryan, Pearl Harbor, Tigerland, The Thin Red Line, etc. is war really that affected on your life so much that you [b]can't[b] escape from it? even after it's over?

I'd say they'd either take it seriously or just disregard it. Depends what you show them.

Most will probably thnk it as a tribute to them and their friends. Some may not.

Games like CoD don't even come close to the real thing. And in that CoH opening, you saw guys getting shot up, right? In reality, that door would of come down and they wouldn't be getting shot up, they'd be having their guts removed from their bodies, being burnt alive, screaming for their mothers... Lots of the Landing Vehicles at Omaha had everyone in them killed before they managed to get past the hatch, so no, Veterans wouldn't be impressed by these games.

I don't know about WWII games, but I'm a vet and I like war games in general. They're just games, and thats it. They're fun, they don't give me flashbacks or anything. I like COD4 especially though, because they obviously put in a lot of thought and work into the weapons and gear, very realistic. M4 w/ACOG FTW.

My grandpa watched me play CoD 2 and I was storming the beaches of normandy, and he thought it was cool.

I am pretty sure the veteran difficulty is when the soldiers are outnumbered so heavily that they will probably die. I have never been in war, but if it is way worse that then I have a newfound respect for my dad and other vets.

Well my neighbor says hes glad that they are making these games. People should know about the battles the men in ww2 fought. And then laughed saying he wishes it was as easy as the videogame.

I heard a story about an american fighter pilot shooting down a German plane, the plane burst into flames and dissapeared below the cloud cover. The American guy thought he had killed the German and didnt persue. anyways so in like 2002, the American gets a phone call and finds out the German he thought he had killed was still alive. They met in real life and now they're really good friends. True story.
