I will post something better in this forum after I read it all.
Edit:
What we know now:
-The Traveler was with us before the fall of the Golden Age and saved us
-It's shields keep our enemies out
-We have been with it for centuries
Warlock: Uses some sort of arcane energy that they learned by studying the Traveler.
Titan: Very strong, they built the Wall and defended it during the Dark Age
Hunter: Derived from outlaws and bandits but are now refined and much better than what they were
Vanguard: Could be a class, something like a faction, a specialization of some sort, or even a pathway that Guardians can choose (like the Night's Watch - GoT or SPECTRES - ME).
Earth: In ruins and grown over. We can go to Russia and somewhere known as the Twilight Gap.
The Moon: Highly dangerous - all previous attempts at access resulted in failure. "Forbidden Zone"
Mars: "Awaiting reports from the Vanguard."; covered in dunes.
Venus: "Awaiting reports from the Vanguard."; jungles.
Fallen: The Fallen are a scourge, tirelessly engaged in war against us and scavenging all that remains. They say their Houses have claimed every planet and moon we ever touched. If you see one in the wild, know there are many more nearby, and don't hesitate to send their souls screaming into the black.
Dreg: These relentless thieves seem driven by desperation and rage. They are crafty, but they usually give up their cover with their clattering and hissing. Most seem outfitted with some kind of shock dagger and pistol, and as far as we can gather, they seem to only have two arms, while other Fallen have four.
Vandal: The truths about the Fallen chain-of-command are still making themselves known, but Vandals appear to hold a higher ranking than the Dregs, and deadlier weapons, too. They often have long range capability, but, lucky for us, their weapons take time to charge.
Captain: Fallen run in packs, led by an individual Captain. There is no denying a Captain's might; they are the fiercest of the Fallen. There is this sense of tattered nobility to them. You can see it in the way they carry themselves. They think they're better than us. They believe that Earth belongs to them.
Cabal: It's been years since they first made their presence known at the Twilight Gap. While early reports have them centered on or around Mars, the true might of the Cabal is still wrapped in speculation. Awaiting more reports from the Vanguard.
Edit: The Wall looks great. I like the Wall.
Ad astra.

2 RepliesThey always release new info when I'm sick of the old info... Thank you bungie! I just can't freaking wait for E3. I've never experienced this with any other game...
-
3 RepliesThese short class summaries have thrown the whole "I want to be an X class" into complete havoc. They all sound so cool.
-
1 ReplyI'm sure this was noticed by someone else before, but do the Titans vaguely remind anyone else of the Night's Watch from ASOIaF?
-
13 RepliesI believe the vanguard is simply a reference to the players that will explore the unknown locations first. In other words they are currently Bungie employees that get to play the game in its development stage. Once Bungie feels like releasing more information about the different locations, the areas currently highlighted as "waiting for reports from the vanguard" will be updated as well.

16 RepliesWhat do you all think of this new information?
-
1 ReplyThanks for the summary! I literally straightened my back and stared in awe that there was a weakly update!
-
5 RepliesI really want the Vanguard to be dedicated community members who get early access to the Worlds and "lead the way" for the rest of the Guardians, who are limited to Earth till the Vanguard has assessed the situation on other Planetary Bodies. Would be neat anyways.

3 RepliesNotice there is no mention of the Hive, Vex, or Glimmer. Ostensibly the Hive is hiding within the Hellmouth on the Moon, and since the entire Moon is a forbidden zone, we won't be seeing them anytime soon. The Vex dominate Venus, presumably we're waiting on the Vanguard report before we hear about them. Still zilch on the Glimmer and their onyx pyramid ships. How intriguing. We also have learned nothing about the playable races either, other than they coexist in the Last City. No origins, background stories, nada. Also no official mention of factions either. This update answered very little, actually.

3 RepliesEdited by SquirrellyOtter: 5/9/2013 11:36:47 PMEarth is gonna be crawling with bad guys, with Fallen Captains thinking Earth belongs to them and the Cabal first appearing in the newly revealed area "the Twilight Gap". Edit: ignore this part unless you want to:
Does anyone wonder if Bungie will pull a Darksiders and prevent you from getting your fast form of transportation (spaceship/Ruin) until you clear off a lot of the Earth's surface? I doubt it, but I do kinda wonder. We really have no business nosing around Mars and Venus until our own backyard is safe, you know what I mean?
1 ReplyI was totally surprised with the 3 sub classes of the Fallen. If the rest of the aliens are like that (having 3 sub classes) Combat is going to be top notch, 100% amazing. P.S :ADD a header pic for this post

2 RepliesI'm pretty sure 'Vanguard' is just a collective term for all the Guardians. By definition, Vanguard means:
the forefront of an action or movement
The Guardians are the first ones to leave the City, as well as being the first people to fight back for Humanity; therefore being exactly what a vanguard really is.
-
3 RepliesTitle- Frontier

We built this City – our last – within its protective shields, fighting countless wars to keep its peace.
The surviving races fought each other in the Dark Age even as we were trying to survive the Collapse and build the city.

1 ReplyIt sounds like they're using Vanguard as a synonym to refer to Guardians in general (at least the guardians who actually are a real vanguard). Maybe it's not a class or specialization, but a group of guardians who we get to play as? There might be other guardians that aren't vanguards who just guard the city or locations that have become secure. Just speculating.
