Why all the fuss about religious/political threads?

I see a lot of rage on here regarding that political and religious debates (more like mud pie fights lol) are allowed in the offtopic section of the site. My question is, why is it a problem? Man up, not everyone out there is going to agree with you, if you surround yourself only with people who agree with you, and refuse to interact with anyone else in a positive manner, you're stagnating your mind (not taking a moment to look at the argument from the other side is bad for you). Now if you want your gaming forum to remain a gaming forum, stay out of the offtopic area. If you want to talk about other subjects in the offtopic, yet you are impulsively drawn towards ranting at "ignorant people" then you can just mute those threads and the people who post them. Okay I feel better now.

  • There has always been a considerably (and dismayingly) large contingent on this site that has a philosophy of: "If I don't want to see it, it shouldn't exist on the site. But since it does, I'm going to rage about it." For these people, ignoring/muting/hiding threads that they dislike is far less of a valid option than posting their disapproval both in those threads and here in the Community Forum. Fortunately, those of us who CAN bring ourselves to ignore/mute/hide content we don't want to see can ignore pointless complaint threads just as easily as any other thread with annoying or inflammatory content.
