I recently started playing Bioshock 2, and I'm near the end, and I really don't understand all the hate it gets. Fans basically pretend it didn't even happen. I understand that:
-It's basically Bioshock 1.5
-It retcons several plot points
-There are very few new features (the only differences in gameplay is the addition of the drill and different levels of plasmid upgrades)
-It was kinda a dumb concept and the action requires less finesse
But really, I'm just enjoying the hell out of this game. I haven't finished it yet, but I really do enjoy the Rapture environment and story and the plasmid upgrades are fun as hell.
So what turned you off to this game, and why are out experiences different?

It's not a bad game, it just didn't do much that Bioshock didn't do. Very similar action, very similar environments. I enjoyed it and played through a few times, it just doesn't have the lasting impact Bioshock had. A lot of people also criticized the player's role as a Big Daddy, primarily because it didn't actually feel like a Big Daddy. You can't take much more damage than you could as a human in the first game, and the drill wasn't the killing machine it should have been until the late game after some upgrades.
