I haven't paid for Xbox gold in 3 months.
To be honest every time I go silver they literally shove free months in your face when you're on the dashboard. I think the longest I've gone without gold is a few days just waiting for another ad to pop up. You guys should really try it.
I know I've been complaining a bit about how the subscription cost is going up. There's also a high possibility that I'm getting plain lucky here too. I'm not sure really. They may just stop doing this as well. Or limit the amount of times an account is allowed to claim a free 2 weeks/month from the dashboard.
Short version: Let your gold expire and see if there's a free month available before you renew.

So yeah, good for you but I doubt that the rest of us are gonna go for it, so your conquest has met an untimely death I'm afraid :/ And we aren't willing to go without Gold for any amount of time so therefore we aren't willing to wait for some advertisement that may or may not crop up to crop up so that we may or may not have XBL Gold again and bask in the glorified glory of it (unless we got PSN and/or PC to fall back on).

3 RepliesIf you use a search engine frequently you can switch to Bing and get free Xbox Live that way as well. I haven't paid for Gold since November.

13 RepliesThe next Xbox is going to have a version where XBL Gold is free and another where you have to pay $10 per moth for two years but that version is $200 cheaper when you buy it.

I haven't had Gold since around August of 2012, and I've seen very few ads for Gold. Do you know why? Because I hardly ever turn my Xbox on anymore. Not having access to online multiplayer has severely hindered my desire to even turn on the game console. I'm not plugged in to the ecosystem, I'm not thinking about games exclusive to the Xbox platform, and I'm certainly not very up-to-date on any of the features XBL Gold could offer me. Microsoft is really shooting themselves in the foot by charging people for online gaming. They need to give a little before they get something in return.

Where should I check? I never renewed either when mine expired two months ago. There is no need to have it till I either get the NextBox or just get a PS4.
