Dive Rolling, and other acrobatics in Destiny

Something I noticed about Call of Duty Black Ops was the belly flop functionality, where you press the crouch button while sprinting you make a leaping dive. And in Crysis we can sprint and slide while shooting, climb buildings, and super stomp. But the problem is people don't tend to use these maneuvers when fighting due to the quick kill times within those games, it's easier and faster to just gun down your opponent then slide and shoot him. But in the manner in which Bungie makes health systems, you DON'T DIE IN 3 SECONDS. So it may actually be plausible And before you say we don't have enough buttons on the controller, Crysis and CoD already did it. I'm sure Bungie could do it also. It would make CQC a more viable option rather than getting gunned down from a DMR/BR type rifle every time from a distance. If you can dive roll, slide, and parqour towards this DMR/BR user, he'd have a harder time killing you. And you could land your Shotgun blast to the face.

  • I have the confidence that if Bungie wanted to make a set of new movements (like parkour and sliding) and made them functional in the game they'd serve some sort of purpose, mainly not being chewed up in bullet storms. The author brings up a good point in that if Bungie makes another shield system people won't have to worry about shooting more than maneuvering because they wont die in a few shots. Personally, I think shields demand more skill from the player and a better movement system could only serve to enhance a sense of mastery and accomplishment in the game. Regardless of whether shields existed if the movement was effective and fun to play it should be implemented. Again, I believe Bungie is smart enough to implement kick ass controls if they so wished.

  • I've previously posted arguments against Prone and other such mechanics in Destiny. In summary, unless such a system serves a significant functionality in increasing the action within the scope of the game, it should not be included.

    • That fellow on the right seems to be diving or rolling. Bungie may have been experimenting with different maneuvers, let us not forget the Evade armor ability from Halo: Reach.

      • This could either greatly expand the skill gap or greatly decrease it. We all saw how annoying evade was in Reach. It would need to have a lot of depth to work, so you couldn't just use it in moments of desperation and startflying around like a monkey on crack. Given Bungie's recent track record, I'm not too confident. Then again I'm not reallyexcited ffor Destiny at all.

        • i think that the movement should depend on the class a little more. maybe a base move for everyone (combat roll) and then a specific move for each class like a magic teleport dodge for warlocks ramming sprint for titans and a parkour element (not so much to make them able to avoid anything) for the hunter.

        • Did everyone forget the screenshot of the phone app? It had agility down as one of the attributes. I think that if Bungie does apply this, it should be based on the agility skill not class. That way you could have a titan that is more agile than a Hunter, but he would lack really high hp. Class shouldn't factor into anything except abilities that are avasilable to your character.

Having the ability to get around with ease and being able to sneak attack your enemies! http://www.bungie.net/7_Faction-The-Storm-Striders-XBL/en-us/Forum/Post?id=60304340&path=1 ^Off topic but trying to get this more views!

          • If you want to give players mobitllity, you'll need to give the the third person perspective to use it with, because I can assure you with a perspective as limited as the first person perspective people aren't going to be able to utilize it fully in combat.

                • While I like the concept and think if it was done properly it would be amazing in close quarters, but in open spaces how could you do it fairly so that someone could jump and dodge attacks without slowing the other classes way down in their movement and aiming. What i am seeing in an open area is a hunter (i assume this would be the class that gleaned the most use out of this feature) jumping around and dodging and a titan simply useing an AOE weapon or an LMG and just shooting them in the face while they are jumping around.

                  • a first person perspective dive would be pretty cool. another mechanic that would work well with this is that depending on your armor, you'll be able to maneuver sooner and faster than someone with bulkier armor?

                    • This could be a great idea, because then characters who are weaker or lighter armored could avoid taking damage. Hopefully its something light and not excessive, don't want to turn this into God Of War or Gears of War. When you take those kind of maneuvers and implement them, you really change the combat physics. But having the ability to avoid getting shot or hit would be very nice. I like your idea, it has a good start!

                    • I really like the thruster pack in Halo 4. It didn't move you too much just enough to maneuver yourself to avoid things or kill people. It to me was perfect. I would love something like that to add to the spice of this game. Evade was a little to much for me to control effectively.

I'd take Evade or anything that can give me an edge on the Ai. I've saved myself countless times with Evade from a unstoppable Sword Elite who can simply just run you down and one shot you, let alone the fast ball Sticky grenade out of nowhere. So yeah I want some crutches with the unlimited ammo perfect aiming Bungie Ai.

                      • Remember the cloth : armour ratios? Maybe they're basing manueverability on that. Titan = 80 : 20 Hunter = 50 : 50 Warlock = 20 : 80 If this is true, then possibly the Warlock will be able to evade and manoeuvre the most. Or maybe the ratios are just purely cosmetic. Like your idea though.

                        • I would definitely like to have manoeuvring abilities like in Crysis (wall grab and sliding over things/moving ove them without jumping) but I don't think things like a roll would be necessary. It might take you out of the game, especially if it sent you into the third-person perspective. It worked in ME because it was only in third-person and it was alright in Reach since it was still in first-person but it never seemed necessary. I wouldn't mind it but as I've said, I don't think it is needed.
