Does anyone else miss when Halo was top dog?
And playing COD was a joke

1 ReplyYeah I miss those days where after a long day at school I would just sit down and play halo 3. I actually looked forward to just turning on my xbox and playing with friends. To me the game didn't really have any huge problems with it and was actually fun to play for hours on end. Sadly I can't say the same for Halo anymore. I can play for about 10 minutes in halo 4 until I get pissed off because this game just feels like another boring, frustrating, unoriginal FPS that could have had a lot of potential.

1 Replysince it goes well with this thread check out this site: http://halocharts.com/2012/chart/dailypeakpopulation/all its a chart that keeps track of how many players are online and in MM it started from the beginning of halo 4 to whatever day your reading this (its daily and ongoing). You know its scary when half the hole games pop leaves after the first week.

Uh, I don't think you remember 2007, in which Halo 3 was out but it was still being beat by CoD 4, playing CoD has never really been a joke.

Miss when people went into matchmaking with mics on, and talked to their teammates.

1 ReplyI miss the old Halo days when I would always see people playing Halo 3 and when it had such a large population on Xbox Live. I think this was back when gaming was gaming and was less about how much money a company made. Halo 3 matchmaking was so much fun along with custom games, those were some of my favorite moments on Xbox Live. But honestly though, COD4 wasn't that bad, I had some fun with it, I think its when MW2 came around that it turned COD crap. IMO Halo in the hands of 343i I really don't see it going anywhere anymore, it seems too much like a COD clone. But like what Lord of Admirals said "All empires come to an end" I couldn't agree more with this. The Romans, Greeks ect. all fell at some point. But that does not mean they are forgotten :). We still study and learn about empires just like we still play and reflect on Bungie's Halo. I love Halo and miss what it once was, but I think its time to move on to Destiny, but Halo will still be my all time favorite game, Bungie's Halo that is.

I think Halo will only get less and less popular/relevant, especially with Destiny being released sometime in the near future. Halo's time is over. Halo 4 pretty much proved that.

Halo 2 was the "glory days" where 95% of Xbox live players played Halo 2 and nothing else. By the time Halo 3 came out other games had rose to the occasion and the community turned into a bunch of people in party chat.

It was THE First Person Shooter on the market and Halo single handedly reshaped how Xbox Live functions today, IMO. Halo 2 had the first "friends list" "clan" and "matchmaking/party system" available on Xbox Live. Now it's just standard for most games. I seriously think that Xbox Live wouldn't be what it is today if Halo 2 hadn't been as big as it was.

Times pass and trends move. I never thought that fighting games would come back. I'm so happy I was wrong. Halo-like games will come back eventually. It's just a matter of time.

1 ReplyHalo 3 days were the start of the end. Halo starting losing popularity among the masses. It was the time frame when CoD4 was released and starting pulling away population from Halo. To be honest Halo 3 wasn't even that good of a game. Halo 2 days.... Those were a whole different monster. Not only was the game awesome but it had essentially ZERO competition. The only other game that other players would occasionally play was SWBF2. Seriously, my friends list during Halo 2 was exclusively Halo 2. I would become shocked if someone was playing something else. Halo 3 on the other hand wasn't nearly the same. My friends list started to become Halo, CoD, Gears of War, etc..
