Am I right or wrong?

My step brother is 8 and his mother who i have no contact with keeps purchasing rated M games for him, I think im doing something right when i say to his father not to let him play some of those games because some of them are kinda inappropriate for someone his age but then i think myself as a hypocrite because i started playing M games maybe not as young as he did but younger then the 17+ stamp suggests (13 was when i started). The games in question that his mother purchased are GTAIV, and Dead Island. I just don't think that he should be playing these games but i came here to get some feedback from more gamers to tell me whether or not im doing the right thing.

  • I think it's important for parents to know what kind of content is in those video games. But once they have the info, it's their choice. If his mom keeps buying M-rated games, even after you've told her what's up, then she's decided that it's okay. And there's nothing more to do.

    • I can't say anything, I started M rated games when I was 7.

    • I think Halo is rated M in the US (it's 15+ over here) and my siblings and I were all playing that before the age of 8.

      • Honestly, it depends from person to person. I started playing M rated games when I was 9. But they didn't have an effect on me (I never thought about actually killing people.) So yeah.

I watched and played all sort of M, R, XXX rated material when I was that age.. It won't be bad for him if you and the parents guide him through what he learns from those games.. Like him no reality doesn't work like that. Be nice and firm, but don't be an ass when informing him. My opinion is.. if you shelter a kid too much, they just end up brattier. I've seen it done to my cousins.. 1 is in the 7th grade and it drives me nuts that he still acts like a 3rd grader.
