Obama's key proposals
Reintroduce an expired ban on "military-style" assault weapons
Limit ammunition magazines to 10 rounds
Background checks on all gun sales
Ban on possession and sale of armour-piercing bullets
Harsher penalties for gun-traffickers, especially unlicensed dealers who buy arms for criminals
Approve the appointment of the head of the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives

n Arizona, handguns can be bought with an instant background check and carried without a permit (in certain places), whereas in Illinois, special ID is required and concealed weapons are unlawful.
The vast majority of states do not require rifles or shotguns to be registered and no permit is needed to buy or carry them. Handguns are more tightly restricted, with 38 states requiring a permit for carrying.
Edited by perinski93: 4/14/2013 7:55:18 PM
Reintroduce an expired ban on "military-style" assault weapons
define "military-style" assault weapons, cause the military uses pistols as well but they're not banning those.
Limit ammunition magazines to 10 rounds
I ran out of ammo, better reload, thatll take 2-5 seconds, besides i have 20 magazines
background checks on all gun sales
would only solve so much. those who go on mass shootings have a gun nearby already, either a relatives gun sitting in the open a gun they got a while back ago. I doubt criminals and gang members get their guns legally. You can easily build a gun if you have the right parts and knowledge
ban on possession and sale of armour-piercing bullets
a little overkill dont you think? i doubt the average citizen has those
harsher penalties for gun-traffickers, especially unlicensed dealers who buy arms for criminals
ok i can agree with that everything above is not going to fix anything though. No matter how much regulations and registrations you put on guns, its not going to solve a damn thing until someone actually solves the real problem, poor education. educate people how to be responsible before they buy a gun and see how that goes

Reintroduce an expired ban on "military-style" assault weapons
This is a violation of the second amendment. So hell no.
Limit ammunition magazines to 10 rounds
Won't solve anything. You can reload and shoot just as much ammo in almost the same amount of time.
Background checks on all gun sales
This is where the problem is and I agree with this.
Ban on possession and sale of armour-piercing bullets
Why? Whats the point? A bullet is a bullet it's going to kill no mater what. This is pointless.
-
3 RepliesOkay I gotta ask for the first one. If they are re-introducing a ban, why was there no uproar after it was initially brought in?
Approve the appointment of the head of the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. >No.
1 ReplyAren't pretty standard hunting rounds, like the 30.06, considered AP? That's one of the issues i have. Recent shootings create this huge gun debate, and people seem to be arguing more for limiting ammo and magazines instead of stoping psychotic people form getting any kind of weapons. I'm all for increasing regulations on gun sales. Some people should not be allowed to own guns, and that seems pretty obvious. Hell, i wouldnt be against requiring all gun owners to take some kind of class and even go through basic, seeing as the second amendment says guns should be used for a well regulated militia. But it really seems to me like some of these proposals are just full of shit in order to make people feel more secure. Go ahead and limit magazine size and ammo types. The crazy gunman will just have to buy two more magazines, and shoot you with bullets that are still completely lethal. The only solution is to stop the wrong people from getting guns, not limit what types of guns the right people can have. Here's where the real science comes in. According to the article, Japan has the least gun violence. Germany is also really low on the list. In order to stop gun violence in America, we need to get our ass kicked in a world war.

1 ReplyEdited by M37h3w3: 4/14/2013 4:04:34 AMat Obama's proposals. No. No. Yes. Are AP rounds currently a problem? Yes. Why the -blam!- doesn't the ATF have a department head?
-
This is what politicians call 'military style' and 'assault wrapons'. No more deadly, but the government wants to give the public a false sense of security.

Edited by DELIVER ME MEMES: 4/14/2013 3:54:20 AMthe whole online sales thing of the bill is retarded, and a waste. see here is how it works currently is that you still have the NICS background check. buying from a gunstore online just ships it to your local FFL dealer. it doesn't go directly to you, unless you are the FFL holder. any gun website quite simply tells you this in the terms, which hows the people proposing gun control don't do any research before writing proposals, they only parrot what they've heard. they need to understand how laws work before proposing new ones. and the rest of the proposals are simply "hurrr muh feels trump facts/statistics" derping that doesn't work.

Reintroduce an expired ban on "military-style" assault weapons. >Virginia tech Limit ammunition magazines to 10 rounds. >Virginia tech Background checks on all gun sales. >I liked the one compromise put forth in the senate where they would only need background checks for gun shows and online purchases and exempting personal sales. Ban on possession and sale of armour-piercing bullets. >Pretty the type of bullet doesn't matter. Harsher penalties for gun-traffickers, especially unlicensed dealers who buy arms for criminals. >If you can prove they are sold them knowing the person's intent to use them in a crime yes. Approve the appointment of the head of the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. >No.

Why do you care so much about the gun policies of a country you aren't even from? Mind your own damn business.
Obama's key proposals Reintroduce an expired ban on "military-style" assault weapons Limit ammunition magazines to 10 rounds
Hell no. None of those change nothing and the ban on "military-style" assault weapons is ridiculous, they are banning weapons based on looks See this
M1 Garand
they would ban it because it looks "Military like" though it's no different from a regular
M1 Garand
in "deadliness" And having 10 round mag's does nothing as they will just carry more mags or god damn tape them together

No thanks, I like my freedom

1 ReplyWhy are you posting a 3-month old article? Can't find any actual news to feed your weird obsession with American gun culture?
-
3 RepliesI think every intelligent person is tired of discussing this by now.

I think the rest of the world should stop caring about America's guns. If they're happy for people to die as long as they can hunt and go down the shooting range or whatever they do, then it's their decision.
Reintroduce an expired ban on "military-style" assault weapons
The aesthetics of a gun does not make it lethal. Only the interior does. I am completely against this. Judge a gun only by what it can do, not by what it looks like.
Limit ammunition magazines to 10 rounds
Seems reasonable.
Background checks on all gun sales
Why not?
Ban on possession and sale of armour-piercing bullets
No reason why any civilian needs them.
Harsher penalties for gun-traffickers, especially unlicensed dealers who buy arms for criminals
Fully agree.
Approve the appointment of the head of the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives
I'm not sure what good this will do but whatever.
-
Harsher penalties for gun-traffickers, especially unlicensed dealers who buy arms for criminals Background checks on all gun sales The only 2 of those I agree with, also what's limiting magazines going to do? The people who have done shootings in the past always brought a shit ton of extra ammo.

I'm going to go buy some more high cap mags... - Der

I agree with all of these.
