[quote]Carroll Sheriff Andy Dickson said his department received a call at 11:30 a.m. Sunday to 145 Sand Hill Road, where a woman reportedly had been shot.
"Reika Kidd, age 22, was shot in her abdomen was transported by personal vehicle to the emergency room in Milan," Dickson said. "Deputies were dispatched to the scene to secure it and to the emergency room in Milan."
Dickson said through his department's investigation, they discovered that Kidd's 2-year-old son found a 9mm Glock handgun in the bedroom and discharged it.
"The gun belonged to her signficant other, who sleeps with it under his pillow," Dickson said. "He told us that he usually locks it up in the morning, but didn't on that day."
Dickson said in the investigation, officers determined that Kidd, her 2-year-old, a 3-week-old baby and Jamal Gray, her partner, were all sleeping in the same bedroom.
The 2-year-old and the baby were not injured in the incident.
Kidd was airlifted from Milan hospital to the Regional Medical Center in Memphis.
"Mr. Gray told us that she's been in surgery and is in fair condition," Dickson said.
Dickson also said his department will speak with the district attorney's office to determine whether any charges will be filed in this case.
The Department of Children's Services has also been called to look into the welfare of the children, Dickson said.

I don't want to say anything about gunlaws and America, but people have to be more responsible if you have a gun and a child.
