Hai guis! Help me put together an innawoods bag.

So I made a thread about joining the army where Capiton pointed out the importantness of having survival skills. Now I've never been camping, not even in a backyard, but I live right next to the forest so I figured I should start. So what should I pack? Keep in mind this is preparation for the army so I don't want absolutely everything that could be useful. I live in Florida and there are numerous animals I have to worry about including bears, bobcats, foxes, gators, snakes, and wild boar. I don't have anyone to go with so I'll be by myself (I plan on letting multiple people know where I'm going though). i want to do an overnight trip and then stay longer and longer as I get more acclimated with the enviroment. I don't have any experience either other than reading books and watching a shit load of discovery. So what should I pack? I plan on bringing backups like emergency food, water, and a fire starter, but other than that I want to actually have to rough it. Also, keep it cheap if possible.

If you're seriously worried about those animals, bring a gun. Other than that you'll want a large blade, like a machete, fire starter equipment, water (or water purifying kit for long excursions), cooking equipment, food (or hunting/trapping supplies for a long trip), tent, and compass. Maybe something like a swiss army knife. It all depends how serious of camping it is though. If you're just hanging out in the woods in a tent you wont need too much. If you're actually traveling from place to place, and scavenging for survival, you'll need more.

      • 1. Mess kit to cook your meals. At least have one largish pot, cup, and a spoon. 2. A knife, non-foldable, as they're more durable. 3. A hammock, they're light and keep you off the ground and away from cirtters. 4. Camping stove, unless you plan on using a campfire. 5. A hatchet, if you plan on having a campfire. 6. A couple bandannas, they have multiple uses. 7. Some rope or chord and a separate waterproof bag to hang a bear bag.

Make sure you have some rope. It has many different uses that you can do with it.
