In their discussion of the three recently confirmed playable races, the Guardians of Destiny (podcast linked above) brought up an thought-provoking point. They suggested that the major incentive to roll human could be our loyalty to the species, as the story of Destiny seems to be humanity's fight back from the brink of collapse. We know that players will be guardians of the Last [human?] City on Earth, so where do these new races come into play? Why are they enlisting to defend this city?
Had these races allied with humanity before "something hit us."
Are these races somehow descendants of humans?
Did these races appear as part of The Traveler's last-minute defense of humanity?
Let me know what direction you guys think Bungie will take it and how you would integrate the Exo and the Awoken into the story if it were up to you!

Edited by Apotheosis: 4/4/2013 10:20:25 PMI don't trust the aliens. But Exo I could see being a group of people who have tended towards technological integration to the point of sacrificing their humanity. They were heading towards singularity during the Golden Age, but are now relics of the past. Unable to die, but unable to progress because of technological regression. Awoken... an appeal towards the ladies in the Bungie community. Before you flame me, c'mon, they had a picture of Edward Cullen on their inspiration page.

From what I've read the awoken are a group of humanity that split off from us and evlovled seperately, and the Exo are a sort of cyborg from humans who devoted themselves the the traveler.
-
my guess is that exos are cybernetically enhanced humans, and the Awoken are either humans genetically enhanced by the traveler, or aliens that arrived aboard the traveler (I think the former is more likely though, as the traveler is supposed to be an entity in and of itself).
-
The Exo look like cyborgs and the Awoken look like humans who got whacked with space magic.
-
Humans get damaged Humans get cyborg parts Humans become Exo
-
Synthetics are ridiculously easy to fit into Sci-fi stories.
-
I believe that the Exo and Awoken are evolutions of the human race. Exo representing biotechnological evolution and Awoken representing standard darwinian evolution.
-
Probs space magic.

Edited by Rock: 4/4/2013 10:08:27 PMHot female Hunter meets single studley Vex via appropriate future online dating site...9 months later baby exo Hunter is born. Hence the Vex now employ time travel. =) I think the exo's might have been the result of advancements in technology and partially how the human race was able to spread and dominate the solar system prior to the Traveller's arrival. I think the awoken maybe like a religious order prior to the Traveller's coming whom prophecised the events leading up to the alien attacks. Maybe they were not taken seriously but emerged from seclusion after the Traveller's arrival - having been hidden away in meditation and having awaited the purge. Those who have survived may have an affintity with the Travellor hence they all get along?

Edited by iGraviton: 4/4/2013 9:58:49 PMMy guess is that the Exo are were either built by humans or they're cyborgs. As for the Awoken I don't have many ideas. The title "Awoken" leads me to believe they were at one point human, but the traveler "woke" something inside them, changing them to what they are now.
