I'm not a big fan of FPS. But after watching Destiny's GDC panel, I got really excited for the title.
One of the main reasons why I didn't get myself to play HALO is the 1st person view. I can't have an actual sense of my position in space with 1st person view let alone the view is very limited. I always call 1st person view (Horse View) if anyone knows what I mean.
In Destiny we have these awesome character designs and to me it's a shame if I can't see the character I customized on screen since it's my avatar.
I believe I'm not the only one who would love to have the option to play in TPV (3rd person view) instead of FPV. And defiantly it will increase the sales of the game. Or at least this is what I believe.
Now, what I want to know is how hard is it to make a TPV option? It's obviously as easy as just switching cameras but on the technical mater like aiming accuracy and such, is it that difficult to adjust the parameters from FPS to TPS?
Plus, I would love know how other members of the forum feels of having such an option?

Edited by Oddball: 10/30/2013 9:01:44 AMIt's confirmed that you go into 3rd person mode when you are in the city and 1st person when you are in the wild. You can also go into 3rd person mode when using your guardian's supers and doing emotes. And also FPS means FIRST PERSON SHOOTER :)

Edited by Manuel890: 10/30/2013 1:44:53 AMTotally agree, I also think like you.i hate fps ,We would Like option Like skyrim...pleaseeee :)

1 ReplyI prefer FPS for combat but maybe 3rd person for when in the city so we can admire the swag outfits that our characters are wearing.
-
2 RepliesIn combat? No. 3rd person caters to newbs. In peace? heck yea, I love to admire the better view you get from third person, and I get to watch my Guardian strut their shiny swag around town.

I agree wholeheartedly....please Bungie, at the very LEAST, put in an option to toggle between first and third person views, and everyone wins. SO much effort going into making these amazingly gorgeous characters and armors, don;t let it all go to waste in "town" instances. Let us play the game whilst being able to see our characters as well. Only makes sense.

8 RepliesEdited by Charlemagne: 3/30/2013 5:40:45 AMI am pretty sure that third-person is confirmed but only in the Last City. Third-person in combat throws the balance of the game by giving a player a 360 degree view of the world that they are fighting in.
-
It's already been speculated, on some YouTube videos, that there will be a third person toggle in places like the city. As for in combat? No I think it's going to stick to FP. Take some time to get used to using radar and you'll prefer it. Easier to aim. Being able to switch to TP would really hurt the game IMO.

I would like the option between third and first like we have in Skyrim. It would come in really handy out in the wilds, also it would be fun to see your character walking around the city streets. Plus it might be advantageous for ridge line sights on enemy positions if we can't go prone.

1 ReplyI think third-person in the Last City is a good idea, but not in combat regions.

4 RepliesEdited by Ocean Man: 3/30/2013 6:51:21 PMYou argue that 1st person is lacking of what the real human eyes can perceive, and that you want it to be more realistic, but you want 3rd person troggle also. If you want the game to be more what the human eyes see then why would you want to have 3rd person troggle? 3rd person is less real then what you are wanting. And I think that 3rd person give an unfair advantage in the world of the fast paced shooters with competitive multiplayer. You can see almost all around you and don't have to depend on reflex and turning corners isn't a risk. Anyways, I believe that there will be set 3rd person in the safe areas, like the "Hub". So no need to fear about not seeing you cool armor, just head to town.

I should also add that you either design games for the first person perspective or the third person perspective, and even if we had the option to kick it out to third person perspective, the game would still fundamentally feel like a first person shooter. If you want the third person perspective, you do it right and design for it, with giving your player increased mobillity and increase the abillities of the enemy AI to take account of your expanded vision to try to overwhelm you in swarms that would be too large for a FPS player to keep track of.

7 RepliesThe point of the first person is so that you have a realistic view of where you are as a person/character rather than a magical, god-like, ultimate, 360-degree periphery. Third Person doesn't work for action shooters; that's why Gears of War will never be as successful as Call of Duty or Halo or Battlefield (3). Its most popular game (Gears of War 2; 6.60 million copies sold worldwide) just barely beats an expansion pack of Halo 3 (Halo 3: ODST; 6.14 million copies sold worldwide). While I'm sure your voice is heard, it's clearly not substantial given history and game sales.

It's an FPS. Having third person option would drastically change gameplay, and nobody would be able to be successful in PvP in first person since 3rd person gives you such a huge advantage. So... nah. If Bungie's going for FPS, I'd rather they kept it that way myself.

4 RepliesEdited by rocketFox: 3/30/2013 5:17:07 AMThe problem with 3rd person is that it utterly changes gameplay as opposed to 1st person. For instance in GoW you can be crouched behind a wall but see where the enemy is and act accordingly, and in Halo you can crouch behind a wall but you can't see the enemy and have to expose yourself to see them. If you can see your enemy then he can see you, which seems fair really. It's got to be one or the other. We've already seen 3rd person being abused in Halo games, where a person rips off a turret and then can see the enemy without exposing themselves to fire. I'm pretty sure that Destiny will be purely 1st person for this reason...... but I also heard that 3rd person view will be allowed when in the City or in your game based home. Which makes for a fair compromise I think.

I'm just like you. I would LOVE to have third person. But Bungie specializes in first person so I'm sure they'll stick with that. As long as they have as much third person as halo reach (vehicles, assassinations, mounted weapons, etc.) ill learn to deal with it. That said, I would not complain about any 3rd person views they added. Maybe even the ability to do it in just the hubs so you don't have to worry about gameplay balance.
