meh. small teasers here and there, nothing revealing. I dont see how everyone is shelling so many compliments. Wait 'till the game's out folks, or at least until a solid gameplay trailer is revealed.

Most of the people here also watched the hour long GDC presentation, which detailed most of the races and some locations. Thats why the comments are so positive.

You're missing a the point a bit; the teasers aren't meant to be revealing. They are artifacts of Bungie's process, not promotional pieces meant to generate hype ( although some could arguably be used for that purpose ) The discussion of Bungie's "postcards" had significant meaning in the context of the presentation; Joe and Chris used them as rally points in the presentation so the audience could fully understand and appreciate their place in the pre-production process.
-
it must be everyone else missing the point if they are correlating these "artifacts of Bungie's process" to affect the success of the game itself. I'm just pointing out an observation that confuses me (the above, in fact).

That, sir, I can agree to, and is complimentary to the point I'm trying to make; this was not a Destiny reveal for fans to become excited about the game. It wasn't a teaser to get is thinking about what's in the game, or how the mechanics work. It was simply a description of their creative process; the steps they take to create a world with the kind of depth and complexity they're known for. The idea is for other studios to come away either saying "Hey, we use a similar process, glad to see we're not the only ones, and that its successful" or "Hey, what a great way to tackle crafting a world on such a scale, maybe we can incorporate some of those elements into our own process."

Edited by GoldZealot: 3/29/2013 4:22:26 PMI'm with Ben on this one. I know it's going to be great but teasers are mostly for looks. And it's obviously going to be released on the new xbox console(none of the old consoles could handle more than two of those creatures rendered in the actual game)

Character, world and story design is everything. Go play Bioshock Infinite and you'll see exactly what I mean..
-
All of which have nothing to do with what was presented in this video. By character design I am assuming you are speaking of characteristics and personality. This video showed us what characters look like and how some of them moved. Graphically speaking, some could be impressed, I get that. But that's all they were showing. And i'm just confused as to why people are drooling over this game like it's going to be the next Halo revolution - all from this measly teaser...
-
It's bungie. I've not been dissapointed in the past so I have faith! :)

You don't see why people are complimenting?.. I just got to watch this and I am completely blown away by these character designs.
-
what's so mindblowing about the character design...? And how does character design influence the gameplay of a video game, which is the most salient feature of video game immersion?
-
I had to google salient :3

Medieval meets sci-fi? I love it. And no, character design doesn't ensure a good game, but good gameplay is largely amplified by it, and given Bungie's track record for creating smooth engines and absorbing gameplay, I'm not too worried.

Edited by GUARDIAN ZERO: 3/29/2013 10:30:57 AMUm....DUDE. You do realize we're talking about Bungie here, right? The company the DEFINED the first person shooting genre, and made the market what it is today? Combat gameplay? Not the thing I'm most worried about.

How about you play an FPS game where your character is a stick figure. See how far just gameplay takes you.

Have you ever played Paper Mario on the N64? It's a 2d game that I've replayed at least 5x.
