Yeah I started a bit late and while I enjoyed them I didn't have a great grasp over what was going on since I hadn't played the first 2.
I think ODST was my favorite, it had more intresting characters than Master Chief and it had a cool atmosphere.
Is Annivrsary worth playing? I may get it some day, and then Halo 2 HD if it gets made.

1 ReplyAnniversary is definitely worth playing, especially to keep you interested with current gen graphics since you haven't played it before. It should be pretty cheap too!

3 RepliesJust get CE and 2. Anniversary just doesn't have the same feel, but has an extended plot due to 343i's mingling.

Edited by Arbiter 739: 2/20/2013 11:53:34 PMHalo CEA's gamma levels are wonky and is around 90% identical to CE. This really messes with the feel of the game and I immediately noticed that they increased the auto aim for the game (I think it's worse than Halo 2's). I would recommend you get the original game for the X-Box, with one minor exception. In Halo CEA you can completely disable autoaim with a skull (oh thank god why is this not in every Halo game) as well as enable a rambo skull that gives you infinite ammo. Other than that, CEA is not worth it.

You had to play them in context. At the time Halo CE was the best damn thing ever, and that's what most of us remember it for. These days it's not so great compared to all the stuff available. The context thing goes for all the Halo games. That's really why the recent Halo games don't have the same unanimous love that the older titles had. Give it a try if you're curious, but really do try and remember the context.

Halo 4 is a really good game though my favorite is halo3

If you want "nicer" graphics and such, then get Anniversary. I honestly like the original Halo CE better than CEA. You should also get Halo 2 (or rent it) if you haven't played it.

1 ReplyIn my personal opinion, Combat Evolved is the worst Halo by today's standards. It has about 3 fun missions, the rest is boring and repetitive. The only thing it has going for it is nostalgia. Well if you ask me you know there's something wrong when a game is praised solely for nostalgia rather than for actually being good.

Edited by Player3Th0mas: 2/20/2013 9:49:00 PMDont worry, I started playing ODST, then Reach, then I played halo 1, then 3 and last but not least Halo 4. I still get the story. Anniversary is definately worth playing, but I thought CE was better... I dont know why, it is the same game, but still CE felt better. I didn't play Halo 2, but it seems good. If only my computer could handle the game. I'd buy Halo 2 HD too.

Combat Evolved has a really good campaign. I don't think they've quite matched the atmosphere and scale in any of the later games. The terminals in Anniversary really add a lot to it as well, at least in my opinion. I'd say Anniversary is worth playing. On the other hand, I've heard some people say that Combat Evolved (and Anniversary, by proxy) is really boring due to the repetitive level design.

2 RepliesThe campaigns were great from the first two Halo games, definitely my favorite. However, what made them so unique and outstanding was the community that surrounded those games. Most of the old community doesn't participate in forums anymore, or they're offsite. Halo 2 isn't playable on Xbox Live anymore since it was shutdown in 2010. Definitely check out Halo Anniversary if you want to try it out, but the community is what made memories for these games.
