What's in a name?

Why do you think this game is called Destiny? I don't think people are thinking about this nearly enough. Halo both sounds badass and is a reference to the Halos within the game that are the balance upon which everything plot-wise rests. Gears of War also sounds about as bitchin' as Led Zepplin (in the 80s) going over to Russia and mowing down commies with nothing but the shear power of their Rock, but it also is a reference to the fact that the soldiers are called COGs (please let that be right if not I'm sorry). Call of Duty, while invoking this sense of responsibility and nationhood with having the word "Duty" (heh, doodie) in there, is also a reference to the fact that a soldier's perceived obligation to participate in a war for his or her country is known as the Call of/to Duty. With that said, do you think that Destiny, since it has already introduced Space Magic, will deal with the idea of predestination at all? Do you think that the driving force for the people of the Last City, and by extension Earth is that it is their Destiny to defeat the aliens and take back their solar system? Perhaps the Traveler conveyed this to them in some way, and that is why they so ardently subscribe to this ideology. So, again, why do you think this game is called Destiny?

  • Manifest Destiny, humanity cannot stay confined. As stated in the matrix, "Humanity is like a Cancer. It keeps breeding and growing until it has consumed everything." It is the destiny of humanity to continue.
