Buying the Halo novels

Hey, I want to buy all of the Halo novels to learn more about the Universe, but I have some questions. Everything will be bought from Amazon UK or any other reputable online store in Europe. 1. Apparently, The Fall of Reach, The Flood and First Strike were reissued in 2010. How can I know if what I buy is the new stuff? Sure, the store may show the product with the updated cover, but it may still be the old book (or vice versa). 2. Following question 1, based on the covers, Amazon UK doesn't seem to have the reissued first three novels. What European store do you recommend? 3. Should I buy Evolutions? Is it, well, as highly regarded as the novels and is a must-read? Thanks, all! EDIT: People have convinced me to buy Evolutions as separate volumes and I found an online store, The Book Depository, that seems trustworthy and has great prices (and free delivery!). They have their products well organized and provide comprehensive bibliographical details, including the publication date, which lets me be sure I'm buying "The Definitive Edition". Thread over, I guess? Maybe you want to say something about the reissued books, idk.

First off, The Book Depository is legit. I've used it before, and I'm an American. Also, I don't know about the reissued first three novels, I have the originals, but I don't think they are all that different from the first releases, I think they just updated them slightly to fix some of the canon inconsistencies.

My advice about the re issues of the first three novels is not to buy the re issues. Just buy the second editions of the originals, the re issues have a bunch of mistakes because rather than taking the time to edit them they just copy pasted a new chapter at the end of the original pre edit novels, because you know Microsoft likes to screw things up. Plus the one chapter that they added to TFoR is not worth the hassle. Evolutions was fantastic, you should absolutely buy it.

    • Glasslands and The Flood are terrible. Stay away form them.

      • Do the reissues actually have anything new? I thought it was just their covers that were different. Also, be sure to read Contact Harvest, it's my favorite out of all of them.

      • Evolutions is probably easy enough to pass on... There were defintiely a few good stories in it, but a lot of mediocre and bad ones too. It's also not anything that I expect them to build future story lines off of.

I read "Contact Harvest", "First Strike" and "Ghosts of Onyx" I liked them. The new books have extra cover-art within the books, and have a 343i logo on it. I reccommend starting with Contact Harvest, the beginning of the Covenant war. Lol, #Literature...

          • You can read all of the novels as PDFs here. And yes, Evolutions is one of the best - The Mona Lisa, Human Weakness, The Return and many other stories in it are very well written.

            • You can always check the wiki. That is where i get all my halo lore and many of the info is from the books.

            • Are the new ones actually different, or is just the covers? Because I prefer the old covers.

              • It's not really worth bothering at all. If you want to learn about the expanded universe just read the synopses online or something.
