Well, if you think it is a true punishment OP, then you should pay for their food, housing, etc. Not little old me. As far as I'm concerned, if you're convicted of the death penalty (which in my case of reform, would be cases of 100% certainty...ala recent mass killer sprees), you should be taken outside and shot immediately after sentencing. Costs 0.05.

  • So you're saying that life is less valuable than money? That's an extremely uneducated opinion.

Why should I, or any other citizen, pool our money together to feed, clothe, and house people who have no chance of ever functioning in society? If we throw Adam Lanza in prison for the rest of his life and he lives to be 75, he will cost taxpayers over two million dollars, not including court costs for prosecution and appeal. Throw those in and you're probably over a three million dollar bill. Taking care of someone else convicted of heinous crimes shouldn't be my responsibility nor anybody else's. There are millions of people who have tough home lives or don't get an education that don't go out and kill people or commit crime. That is an excuse.

And it's been proven that life imprisonment is more cost effective than capital punishment. Think of all the judicial processes that is required to prove they are actually guilty of the crime. Now times that tenfold for capital punishment in terms of expenses. Also add the fact that it's not really justice to take a life, and it hasn't proven to be an effective deterrent either. Ask yourself; why should it be implemented at all?

  • Note my original post that advocated streamlined death penalty in cases of obvious guilt.

  • If prisons were harsher and cheaper it wouldn't be as much of a problem
