H.P Lovecraft

Have any of you Floodians read anything by him? He is a fantastic writer of horror and sci-fi stories. His most famous creation is the Cthulhu mythos. His influence on modern horror and countless other books, games and movies is everywhere yet hardly anyone knows him! Even Arkham Asylum in Batman was named after a fictional town he created. So, in a nutshell, have any of you read anything by him?

  • I own three collections by him, two large, and one is specifically for his Dream Cycle, which is my favorite. My favorite stories are Pickman's Model and From Beyond.

  • Yeah, I've read a lot of the classic Cthulhu ones, as well as a few others.

  • Making my way through a complete collection of his stories at the moment, but it's somewhat hard since all the stories are so short: as soon as I become really invested in a tale, it ends, and it feels a little tiresome to have to start all over again every ten pages or so. So I'm just reading a couple at a time, while I read other books. Just finished Ports of Call by Jack Vance, and moving onto Shriek: An Afterword by Jeff Vandermeer.

  • I picked up a collection of his stories at Barnes and Noble a few months ago. I read all of them, but my favorite was probably "The Color Out of Space." Good author.

I read Dagon the other day as a break from my current book. It was alright.

  • I have a large leather-bound book of his complete works. Have yet to read any of it, though.

  • Great writer. I really like his Cosmicism notion. Its a needed logical progression from the Classical notions of transcendence. Just, horrible, instead of saintly (which is a great contribution IMO). The Dream Cycle is my favorite...arc of his. I like almost everything he has wrote, that I have had the time to sit and read. Its pretty much the only fiction I can stay interested in enough to stick with it.

  • Recently started reading his stuff. Only read ~10 of his short stories so far, but they're pretty damn good.

I've never read any Lovecraft mythos, but they interest me. One day I'll give them a look.
