Well, what's the point of buying Xbox Live gold membership now?
You still pay 60$ a year and yet XBL has ads.

A bit off topic. I feel as though I've been put off XBL lately. I'd like to see more effort put into actually improving XBL, rather than adding more advertisements. Money is money, but I'd prefer it if they'd tried making more of it by offering a superior service rather than trying to juice their current consumer base for more cash. Meanwhile PSN provides the importance stuff for free, and PSN Plus has been giving away free games. I'm on the fence right now.

Edited by aBallisticToucan: 1/26/2013 3:41:06 AMI honestly don't care much. The ads are just on the dashboard, and while they're noticeable there, they aren't much of a MAJOR problem with XBL. Little boxes recommending you what arcade games to buy aren't so bad when you think about how PC ads want to phish your information and give you viruses. Now, if ads got to the point where you have to see them before or while playing a game, then we'd be going over the line.

Leaked image of Xbox 720 UI.

People have to advertise somehow, it's a business. If you were selling a product aiming for guys ages from 14 to 24 wouldn't you want to use XBL as the perfect platform for your ad? It's very smart. I'm not saying I like it, but I understand.

I'm seriously about ready to sell my Xbox and games for a Wii U and/or PS3 once both have a sale. Seriously, it has no single player exclusives I'm interested in and the only 360 MP games I'm interested in are the Halo games, which obviously aren't worth $60 a year. Do you all know how many TF2 hats I could get for $60? A -blam!- load, that's how bloody many.

My xbox live gold is just about to expire. Halo 4 is terrible and I'm sick of paying to see ads, so I'm opting out of my renewal. Those ads...... Paying money to see ads is just maddening.

Right to disc FTW.
-
That's one of the reasons I don't pay for Xbox Live Gold. Well, that and PC Masterrace.
-
Oh well.
-
Has anyone else noticed that after the ads load in the videos on the dashboard, the video itself seems to buffer at lest 48572x slower?
-
Microsoft at it's best, if they continue to charge to play online and have a ton of ads next-gen then i already know which console i'll be buying.
-
I just bought three more months today......... / :
-
Though that is disappointing, at least they don't directly interfere with your gameplay.
-
I love the ads, always give me free stuff! I won 1200msp a month ago.
-
Yay...
-
I can't stand all those ads on my dashboard. Only reason I use my XBOX now is to play Halo, besides that I use my PS3 for everything else.
-
It's not like the ads are bad. They're off in the corner and muted unless you move the selection tool over them. Why complain?
-
I actually hover over most of the ads on the dashboard and check them out.
-
The ads aren't that bad, to be honest. I'd like live to become cheaper (they are running a shitload of ads, after all)and more of an add-on bundle rather than a brick wall. What i mean is, it shouldn't be a preventative thing keeping people from multiplayer and other accessories, it should be an additive thing. For example, lets say you pay for gold for a year for 50 (what i think is a fair price for a year). You should get early access betas/demos, as well as deals silver members wouldn't recieve. Then, (just my idea) they should make live platinum, which would allow ad disabling and give even more benefits. Of course, microsoft being the money hungry company they are wouldn't even consider it, so it's just a pipe dream. Still, normal online should be free, otherwise people are going to flock to the PS4 en masse, myself included. I may still get the 720 if it has great launch titles, but otherwise, my money stays with me.

Edited by iZac Newton: 1/25/2013 7:03:06 PMI just ignore them.
-
*shrugs* They're easily ignored.
-
And XBL users will just lie back and take it, because they're all retarded.
-
You pay for cable TV and get ads. Since Microsoft is expanding into Media Center territory, this is understandable.
