HDTV Splitscreen problem! 4:3 Aspect ratio??!?!?!

As some of you know, I recieved my Halo 3 copy today from the Pontiac contest. I have been playing campaign fine by myself for about an hour. My brother just got here and we went in to do some splitscreen co-op campaign, and bam... Theres black bars on the left and right side of the screen! I tried going through every setting, reading the manual, checked my Xbox360 settings but it wont change! Any suggestions (or anyone else with their copy confirm this issue?) Thanks.

  • Seabiscuit posted on the first page: "Guys IT IS STILL 16:9!!! Please try and look at the screen. If you shrink down the image to half the size (there is another person playing on top of you that is taking up the other half the screen)....and you went all the way to the edges of your TV...simple math tells you your aspect ratio is now 16:4.5. This is not a normal or supported or even wanted resolution. In order to fix it, it needs to reduce the size of the horizontal to give you the 16:9 again. They didn't screw up and you shouldn't be pissed off. You have a 16:9 inch widescreen tv and they are giving you two players in that aspect ratio. There is nothing wrong with the game or your TV. Do some math, use some common sense." This thread should have stopped there, and frankly, thats where i stopped reading. He is absolutely correct, as is Protunus ^ right there. If the black bars were deleted, then you would either get: A: A FOV (field of view for you noobs) that is way to large, and in fact, might make people motion sick. If you don't believe me, Google search FOV motion sickness or something like that. or B: A super stretched image. This would just look stupid, I can't believe some people can't grasp this concept Anyone in the arts (fine art, photo, film) can tell you why certain aspect ratios are better than others. Most will argue to you that 4:3 is in fact better. Bungie was right in doing this. Even if they made it vertical split like Halo 2, it would still suck. Playing with that low of a FOV just plain sucked. THIS THREAD IS OVER, LOCK 'EM UP MODS! EDIT: Gears of war was able to do split screen like that because... DING DING DING: IT WAS THIRD PERSON!!! Stop comparing because the views are not the same and therefore, it will be done differently. [Edited on 09.27.2007 2:14 PM PDT]
