HDTV Splitscreen problem! 4:3 Aspect ratio??!?!?!

As some of you know, I recieved my Halo 3 copy today from the Pontiac contest. I have been playing campaign fine by myself for about an hour. My brother just got here and we went in to do some splitscreen co-op campaign, and bam... Theres black bars on the left and right side of the screen! I tried going through every setting, reading the manual, checked my Xbox360 settings but it wont change! Any suggestions (or anyone else with their copy confirm this issue?) Thanks.

 •
Posted by: DagieAnd not having an option to increase the FoV to fill the screen when playing 2player coop offline is sort of taking a little of the fun away, because now you: A) Have to sit closer to your TV or B) Buy a bigger TV, as you have said so many many times that it's starting to get on my last nerves.
No, it isn't taking away from gameplay. Again, and hopefull for the last -blam!- time: FILLING THE SCREEN ISN'T MAKING THINGS "BIGGER" OR EASIER TO PLAY. You're still limited by the VERTICAL resolution. Things are NOT going to be any BIGGER vertically, so fillling the horizontal does NOTHING to make the game easier to play on a small TV, it simply gives you an unfair advantage and DIFFERENT gameplay then intended. THE ONLY WAY TO MAKE IT BIGGER IS TO BUY A BIGGER TV. Or tell your leeching buddy to buy his own -blam!- xbox and TV! I hope your sick of me saying it so you stop posting your crap!
Posted by: Dagie It's not a dumb thing. These black bars will cause a burn in on your screen if you play with split screen mode.
Prove it. I guarantee it won't. No one plays halo that much on splitscreen that with a modern TV you'd get burn, ESPECIALLY from a dark image. This is a false concern. Stop getting people worried about it. If you do play Halo enough split to warrant a concern with a modern TV, I have news for you: The world does not need your opinion. You should consider turning off your TV for a few hours a year.
