IWHBYD Skull problem. What am I doing wrong?
ok, a couple of problems here.
1. I beat the game on single player, heroic difficulty over the course of a few days. The game didn't give me an achievement for beating the game on heroic. So, I go after all the skulls on normal difficulty, and beat the level "the covenant" on normal. Then, the game gives me the achievement for beating the game on normal. I don't understand why it didn't give me the achievement the first play through on heroic. I mean, I beat the entire game single player campaign on heroic difficulty, but it didn't give me credit for finishing "the covenant" until i played it back through.
2. But now, the main problem. I've played "the covenant" through 4 times now on normal difficulty trying to get the IWHBYD skull. I kill the prophet, I kill the flood, etc, but when I go back through and jump through the rings there are no tones, no glowing rings, etc. The music from that signifies the presence of "the flood" keeps playing for a while, but then stops, and no matter what I do, the skull won't appear.

Again, I've beaten the game and have the achievement for beating it on normal.
I start at the beginning of the level and kill everyone (the profit, the flood, etc) and jump through the rings in the following order: 4 6 5 4 5 3 4
I even tried jumping through all the rings to see if anything happened at all for any of them. nothing happened.
I've watched videos and youtube, and can't figure out why it isn't working for me.
I don't have all the terminals yet. Is this a condition for getting the skull? I do have all the other skulls.
I can even upload campaign footage if anyone wants to see my gameplay of this section. I don't have it uploaded now, but I can if anyone wants to see.

Ok, I'd like to thank a couple of you for your pm's about how to get the skull. If you read through this thread, there are many conflicting opinions on how to get the skull. After visiting the Halo 3 wiki ( http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/Halo_3_Skulls#I_Would_Have_Been_Your_Daddy )on the advice of a pm (thanks again), ..anyway, I'm going to try the method that the wiki gives later tonight. However, I *think* that I may have discovered part of the problem. --The Halo 3 wiki states that the "flood" music should stop playing when you kill all of them. For me, I noticed that a few of the smaller flood escaped by walking over the edgue and hanging onto the bottom of the walkway. I had no way to kill them. Heck, I couldn't even see where all of them went. I spent probably 5-6 minutes trying to jump through the rings, and eventually the "flood" music does stop, but I know that I didn't get to kill all of them. Could killing all of the flood be a condition to getting this skull? maybe that's my problem. anyway, i'll try again tonight and follow the directions found here: http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/Halo_3_Skulls#I_Would_Have_Been_Your_Daddy I appreciate the feedback, and if the wiki doesn't work for me, then i'll try some of the methods that ya'll mentioned.. Question: Is it true that the correct rings play tones when you jump through them? This web site says that the correct rings produce tones: http://www.halo3planet.com/halo-3-skull-locations/iwhbyd-skull/ Youtube videos show the longer code working, but various websites (including the halo 3 wiki) say that you only need the later part of the code, the short part. A few of you even pm'd me saying that the short code worked fine.

Alright, i did it with the short code and i skipped the cutscene, i also started jumping thru the rings before the flood music stopped. and I got the skull. if the short code doesn't work the first time, try it again, you don't have the restart the level, i didn't. when you get the correct order the rings will pulse and the skull will appear on the light bridge by the prophet of Truth. after you grab the skull, WAIT until the rings pulse and stay on, i made the mistake of saving and quitting before that happened and i had to do it again.

There is no "wrong" code. Notice how the last 7 numbers of the long code are the ones everyone is saying. The last 7 digits are all you need.

It won't work if you fire a single shot.

4654534 Go to Mission Start on The Covenant, and at the final part(skip cutscenes if you want) jump through the rings in that order, facing where Truth was. I didn't really notice any music change (but I wasn't trying to =P). Make sure you don't mess up (jump too early, etc.) Go up to the rings, jump through. After you've done those 7, the rings should light up, fade away repeatedly. Go to the light bridge leading to Truth and the skull should be there. Go ahead and finish the level. The first time I picked it up, I quit immediately and it didn't show up, so I loaded up the checkpoint, jumped through the rings, waited a while and finished the level and it worked. Don't have ANY other skulls on, turn off the meta game, co-op is fine.

Dolemite, I sent you a message telling you how I got it. there is a lot of misinformation in this thread that won't help you. When you try to get it, just take your time and don't rush it. Good Luck!

4 6 5 4 5 3 4 worked for me. Just get all skulls before this, make sure you aren't using checkpoints, and make sure it's at least on normal difficulty.

the reason that you did not get the skull is 100% you had the wrong code. as a few people said above me, the right code is 1, 3 , 4 , 6, 7, 5 ,4, , 6 , 5 , 4 , 5 , 3 , 4 you wont go wrong if you follow that code. oh edit for helpful hint: if your co-oping, it can make jumping throw the rings alot faster. meaning, anyone can jump past the rings, as long as it is in order. solo it should take you about 12-13min to finish the sequence so co-op is the way to go. I tried the short code once for someone in co-op and got nothing. Every time I've gotten this skull I've done the long code posted above and it works just fine. Make sure you or anyone else isn't jumping thru the rings before you try the code though...that might be screwing with the sequence.

heres the original code b4 people started shortening it :456576541232721346754654534. you have to start the lvl from the beginning and kill the prophet first then the rings .its easier if u kill the flood too.

Ok, later today I'll try it again. I'll play through from the beginning, I'll watch the cutscene, and I'll try the shorter code, and if it doesn't work, I'll try the longer. If none of that works, then I'll upload my gameplay and ya'll can watch and see what's wrong. On youtube, you can actually watch people using the shorter code and see that it does work. That's why I was using.

The short code is right, you have to watch the cutscene, and you DON'T have to have all the other skulls.

Those codes are wrong. Go to highimpacthalo.org to look up the real one. (it's starts with 1,3,4). The site is on the credits of Halo3 btw.

first of the reason you dident get the heroic achieve was because you skiped a part of heroic on the covenent beat the covenent on heroic to get the achievement ok the reason you dident get IWHYBHD is becuase your doing the wrong code 1, 3 , 4 , 6, 7, 5 ,4, , 6 , 5 , 4 , 5 , 3 , 4 is the corect one once you get the skull DO NOT LEAVE THE GAME go to the other side of the room and end the mission then youl have the skull

Im not sure if this makes a difference, but i jumped through the hoops facing the prophets dead body. And also, have you played the level all the way through when you try to get it?

I'm jumping through them. But I did skip the cutscene. So maybe that 's the problem. I'll post back later tonight and tell if watching the cutscene worked or not. [Edited on 10.20.2007 11:41 AM PDT]

1. Do u jump through the rings and dont just walk through them 2. Try 4 6 5 4 5 3 4 3. If it doesn't work restart the level and try it again

Ok, I skipped the cutscene... I'll go back, and replay the level, taking care to watch the cutscene this time, and see what happens. So far as the other post goes, which code is correct? 4 6 5 4 5 3 4 or the longer code? From what I understand, only the shorter code is necessary.
