Forerunner and a Prophet

Warning: This thread contains Prophecy and possibly spoilers (I haven't played the game). If you are prone to flaming, you have been warned! Welcome to my mother of all thread (thus far). For those of you who are familiar with my previous posts on the topic, this is new stuff. I have handpicked several passages from The Word. They're quite frightening at how they are appearently coincidental... Or I'm just crazy (I like both answers). If anyone would like a list of the passage titles, simply PM me for them and I'll be more than happy to send 'em your way. (If you are not a skeptic of my findings, skip this paragraph) I understand that some (if not, most or all of you) do not believe as I believe. But for all of you skeptics out there, please try to answer these questions: Where else do you hear about the Flood wiping out entire populations? Where else do you hear about the Prophets of the Covenant? Where else do you hear about the Reclaimer bringing salvation to mankind? With that said, let the intrigue begin! (any thoughts I add will be italicised)

 • your observations are have an excellent source as a foundation. I will not argue with your musings simply because that they were my initial thoughts of the situation. supporting your idea: Arbiter: I am already dead cryptic message: I wish to seek death, destruction supporting the gravemind idea: gravemind: I am a monument to all your sins cryptic message: I seek forgiveness for my horrible crimes against God. (note: the Arbiter's only "crime" was the destruction of halo. Graveminds crimeS were mass infestations) All in all, this will keep us thinking for a while. • Hey IceWeasel, I am just re-posting here from the HBO forums. In regards to the hidden prayer:
"I wander the earth. I seek your forgiveness for my horrible crimes against God. Amen . I wish to seek death, destruction. the light, let the light that cannot be extinguished"
I thought about it for a minute, and it dawned on me that this is a prayer of forgiveness. Since this is the scene where the Arbiter is made into an Arbiter, the words in this prayer make sense. It is quite possibly an Arbiter's prayer of forgiveness to the Prophets. The line, "I wish to seek death, destruction" sounds similar to the Arbiter's wishes to be executed rather than become an Arbiter. The mention of "the light that cannot be extinguished" makes me wonder if it means something about the great journey. I don't think this could be Gravemind. It is too early in the game, although I believe you hear the same "whisper" when playing on the level High Charity or Gravemind. IceWeasel your connections between Halo and The Bible are fascinating!

 • Dude your thoery is very compeling. If i remember correctly it said somewhere that there were connections between the bible and plot to the Halo but i never really thought about it that much... But good work on your findings, this reminds me of the time when the sacred icon had been found and then the Covenants path was clear so the Great Journey could begin ( before any1 asks i think the Covenant are my favorite thing in halo next to the very compelling storyline ! ).

 •
Posted by: Chaplain Thanks Iceweasel. I don't believe I was the one that came up with the neural pattern problem, but I did continue on with it, and elaborate on it. :) Now that I see your posts are from the Bible, I am starting to like your theory a lot more. I (As crazy as it may seem due to my name being Chaplain..) am an atheist, but it does bring up a good point, from where you stand, the storyline DOES hold many biblical references in it, and using scriptures from the bible, makes your theory A LOT more valid. Good work Ice, and don't listen to the flame.. heh, after all the most hated Chaplain (And probably most over-all hated) here on bungie.net, has made a come back from all the flames. • thanks guys (all three of the above (I am fatigued... (i've also been listening to the whispering for far too long.... (it's driving me nuts!)))). I've actually got it as tweaked as I can get it. the whispering is MUCH clearer, although it seems hoarser. the correct (or as correct as i can hear) it is: "I wander the earth. I seek your forgiveness for my horrible crimes against God. Amen . I wish to seek death, destruction. the light, let the light that cannot be extinguished-" right after "extinguished", it is hard to tell what else is saying, that's when that big covenant door opens. Now for my much beloved analysis. Granted, I am tired.... quite tired, so this may seem a little half-axed. Genesis 4:13-14 Cain replied to the Lord, "My punishment is too great for me to bear! You have banished me from my land and from your presence; you have made me a wandering fugitive. All who see me will try to kill me!"
I wander the earth. I seek your forgiveness for my horrible crimes against God.
Isaiah 60:20 The sun will never set; the moon will not go down. For the Lord will be your everlasting light. Your days of mourning will come to an end.
the light, let the light that cannot be extinguished
The above quotes may or may not be accurate correlations (due to my mental fatigue).... but none-the-less I cannot find anything yet for the "death and destruction" parts... there are far too many passages to be specific at this point. I may stay on just a bit longer to check up on replies and stuff... but soon after I'll be going to bed.... (hopefully not with nightmares with that sound playing over and over again!) ~Weasel [Edited on 1/7/2005 10:02:10 PM]

 • Very good IceWeasel. I've read the other threads you wrote on this too. I think that they drew heavily from the Bible when they made the story, but there are some people who try to come up with a reason for that, or an alternate reality, or some sort of deeper message---I think that's dumb. But the info is good to see--intriguing. And by the way, I'm a Catholic and there is absolutely nothing wrong with finding literary/Biblical connections (yes, I'm considering Halo literature). You have taken great pains to punctuate everything correctly and i appreciate that.

 • MODERATE UPDATE: HIDDEN AUDIO MESSAGE! alright, this isn't falsifiable simply because most do not have the abilities to detect such a connection, but here I go: when you watch the opening scene for the level Arbiter, you get dragged throughout the jails and into the mosuleum (SP?). In the time between tartarus saying "...special in mind" and "noble prophets of truth and mercy, I have brought the incompetent", there is a song that you do not hear anywhere else in the game or on the volume 1 soundtrack. The song itself made me curious because, being a self proclaimed audio technician, I noticed the voices were just regular voices being played at 3/4 speed and backwords (ok, i suppose others with less training could spot this). So I made the adjustments to the sound (sampling rate, band stop, frequency stabilizing, etc.) and I discovered a VERY interesting message: most of the words are garbled by instrument noises that drown them out, I only type what I am 95% sure of) "of the earth ...seek your forgiveness for my horrible crimes against God... amen(OR) and..." (here the message gets really confusing, I will type what I THINK it is) "...help me to seek out your instruction....by the rings..." (and then this part is quite a bit more coherent than the rest)"....the light that cannot be[edit]extinguished[/edit].. ..". If any of you have any technical expertise in anything to do with audio, PLEASE contact me, I will show you exactly what I did to get the sound and then you can bare witness to this find, but more importantly to help get rid of fall the other crap sounds that get in the way of the words. ~Weasel [Edited on 1/7/2005 5:42:44 PM]

 •
Posted by: Powerhungrymonk dude even though that is sort of cool, your are way too obseesed. it is scripture and this is a freaking game(no offence) there is no conetion
Actually there could be a connection. Look at the Legacy of Kain series. It has one of the most complex storylines in all of gaming history. Yet the original was based closely on Milton's Paradise Lost, and subsequent sequels have recurring Judaeo/Christian themes in them.

 • In the words of Cortana:
I leave home for a few days and look what happens. This won't take long.
To gods_spartan: I may continue my campaign in this thread, but I will likely in the future make a duplicated yet simplified version with all of updates in one central location.... that is... at the top of the thread, rather than sprinkled through out 10+ pages of Q and A sessions. But the day I make that simplified copy in New Mombasa is well after the initial copy dies at the forum in Eagle117's group, The Watchers (which i have not posted it there... yet). I've got a size-able update coming, with tid-bits on my musings on gravemind, as well as a few others describing the Arbiters, the prophet of Truth.... plus a few more that I find along the way (all topics seperate, for the most part). To Truth 3: I'm glad to hear that your a fan of these connections and i wish you well on your highschool.... campaign (my freshmen year was... deplorabley painful). And as for the john:117 part, yes I have heard of it. Actually, that little part right there is was got me started on this whole theorizing thing. I first heard about it over at Yellow Banshee, and then it got me thinking and I started to sniff out other clues. But, in truth, I do not endorse the idea that it is refering to the book of John, chapter 1 verse 17. I believe as it is stated at Yellow Banshee (whoops, I can't find it at that link, it is talking about John 1:17 and the mosaic law), it is refering to Revelation 1:17 (the book of Revelation was written by the same John). There it is talking about Christ being the first and the last. Where Chief is the first and the last? if you read The Fall of Reach you will see many instances. Actually, I have a link on that topic buried deep within this thread.... scanning... ah! i shall post it again right here so there is no confusion:
ORIGIONALLY POSTED AT: 11/8/2004 3:20 PM PST SPARTAN117, John. After my previous posts pretaining to the Biblical references in halo, others have attempted at pointing them out as well. One of which being MC's name. Some insist that it points to the book of John chapter 1 verse 17, or John 1:17. Where infact it would make much more sense if it would refer to a different book that John wrote, Revelations. Namely Revelations 1:17, where Christ reveals Himself as the First and the Last. Revelations 1:17
When I saw him, I fell at his face as though dead. But he laid his right hand on me and said, "Don't be afraid! I am the first and the last..."
This is relative to Spartan 117 because in The Fall of Reach he was first and last in nearly everything. The Fall of Reach, page 53
"First drop in three minutes," Mendez barked. "Trainee 117, you're first."...

..."not yet," John told him. He marched onto the dorpship. No one else was on board... ...Kelly paused and asked,"Who's getting left behind?" "No one," John said."Just get in." He made sure he was the last one on.
The Fall of Reach, page: 42
...John protested. "I was first." "Yes, you were first," Mendez explained ,"but your team was last."

And as for xbox live... I don't have mine up and running. I have couple of "2 months free" cards lying around.... but i don't want to activate them just yet. But I will keep you posted when I do. To Zakushark: Ah yes, the two prophets. I have considered putting them in another update... but some of the things don't quite work out with them. For example: yes, the prophet of Regret did "shoot fire" to defend himself, and the prophet of mercy (as well as truth) likely have the same devices on their chariots. HOWEVER in order for them to make a more upstanding connection with scripture, they would need to: 1) die (check) 2)be ressurected 3 (or so) days later (maybe a check for regret.... perhaps not for mercy) 3)ascend to the heavens after ressurection Granted many connections on such topics are loosely based because they are not what the Bible was truly mentioning, so I/you/we/non-bungie-employee can't really prove or disprove that connection either way. But since you found it without seeing anyone else mention it, I tip my hat... that is if I had one. Kudos! As for the rest of your theory, I can see how one might come up with those conclusions... but in my opinion, they kind of go off on a tangeant. But I wouldn't be entirely surprised if it was true. To TheSilencer X: Kudos on your finds, bretheren. To whom it may concern: UPDATE PENDING and a happy new year.

 • I have been doing a bit of research myself on this topic since this forum was created to help contribute in some way or form. So far I have found nothing new to add, that is until now. When I was looking through the book of Revelations, I happened to stumble upon this verse: “These two prophets are the two olive trees and the two lamp stands that stand before the Lord of all the earth. That if anyone try’s to harm them, fire flashes from the mouths of the prophets and consumes there enemies. This is how anyone who try’s to harm them must die” (Revelations 11:4-5 NIV). I was trying to think how this would fit in to the plot line of halo, so I kept on reading. “When they complete there testimony, the beast that came up from the bottomless pit (Gravemine) will declare war agents them. He will conquer them, and kill them” (Revelations 11:7 NIV). This verse really got me thinking. This theory may be a little off topic, but pleas continue reading. What if perhaps Gravenine was a bigger part of the plot line of halo then we previously thought…. This is going of the theory that the forerunner were human. The forerunner created the flood. What if perhaps there was a gigantic war between the forerunner, and there creation; the flood. The halos were built to kill the flood if I am not mistaken. The forerunners built the halo’s as a last resort probably after most of there race had been infected. The remnence of the forerunner fled to earth to escape the flood. Now this is were the “ark” comes into play. The ark as stated in halo 2 is the spot to activate all of the halos remotely. What if perhaps the ark was also the only safe spot within the halo’s blast radius? When the halos were activated the only sentient life that remained was on earth. The flood having no food to live off of, were then secluded to remote parts of the universe. Now you’re probably asking yourself “where does the covenant come into play?” This next theory may seem a little far fetched, but what if the forerunner created the covenant races as well as the flood before they set off the halos. The various covenant races could have escaped to planets outside the halo’s blast radios. What if the flood, after the covenant had formed, took over the prophet race and the flood in a way roold the covenant (after all, Gravemine was inside high charity). I know, this would be the biggest plot twist ever in gaming history, but pleas keep reading. What if the flood wanted revenge on there creators? That would make since why the covenant wanted so much to eradicate the human race. What if Gravemine was the covenant’s “gods” “Your destruction is the will of the gods, and we are there instruments” (The fall of reach pg.98). I think this quote is self explanatory. Now, finally going back to the above verse. Gravemine would dispose of the covenant when they were no longer needed (after the humans have been severely weekend). Which happens near the end of halo 2? The above is merely a theory. I realize my theory has many holes in it, and is slightly off topic of this forum. Feel free to flame and critique this theory. This is merely an idea I decided to post in order to build upon or the spark new ideas and theories on the plot line of Halo.

 • Congrats for being probably the biggest halo fan ever, also the connections you made are amazing. But there is another connection between the bible and halo, that is the name itself. Do you think bungie made it a halo for no reason? If it didn't have to do with religion it wound't be a ring (halo). Maybe the forerunners somehow built Earth to protect them from the flood. Like noah building the ark to protect him from the water (flood). [Edited on 1/2/2005 2:29:50 AM]

 • IceWeasel! Dude you are awesome! Hey I joined that group of yours, The Watchers, and I would love to see you post some stuff like this in there. I did a report on Halo in the 8th grade (I'm a freshman now) because we could write about anything, and I learned a lot about the relations between Halo and the Bible. I mean, even the name HALO is religious. I'm Catholic, so I have some Bible background, and I got really into the Halo/Bible relations. You heard about the John 117 and John 11:7 or John 1:17, right? Listen, with school and tennis I don't have much free time, but it looks like you do. I learned about half of the things you said on my own, and the other half was new stuff I hadn't heard before. Everything you say is true, and to be honest, a little scary and disturbing, especially the stuff on the first page. Bungie must have done some intense research. Listen, if people give you a hard time, start flaming you because of all this research you're doing, don't listen to them. I've got your back, man. I'm a skeptic, just like you. I agree with everything you say. This, all of this, is like real life. Just like the Bible. It's the Truth and Reconciliation! By the way, do you play XBOX Live? If you do, what's your GamerTag? I'm RagingElite. [Edited on 1/1/2005 10:19:05 PM]

I may simply post anything new (as well as archived information) in a new thread. I don't believe people find 10 pages of scattered info appealing... • Alright, I'm no where near done on my Gravemind connection, but I do have some good leads. In the sake of Christmas spirit I will give something to chew on for a while. Nothing big, but it's good enough for now. Job 42:4 (New Living Translation)
"You have said, 'Listen and I will speak! •
Posted by: Noice Guy Sup guys I don't know if this has been brought up before and I'm not much of a bible person but I know some of the stories. Putting Halo(the game) aside for a moment, in those bible stories isn't the Ark suppose to save life on Earth from the flood(water)? In Halo 2 it seems like if the Ark is part of the destruction of life on Earth. Unless Earth is the Ark and only life on Eartch survives the destruction caused by the Halos. Just an idea.
Yes. A long time ago, mankind lost alot of its.... say... moral touch, so God decided to cleanse the land by sending a massive flood that covered the earth for 40 days. But before it started to even rain, God told Moses to build the Ark, a giant boat, to save himself, his family and a boatload of animals. There is also something called the Ark of the Covenant. It is a small wooden chest containing the ten commandments, Aaron's staff, and some manna (kinda like bread). I think it represents the Glory of God. I believe that either story is relative to the Ark in halo2. However, I am leaning more towards the Ark of the Covenant story connection more... although it could be a hybrid of both. thanks for the good question, Noice Guy.
