Well there were a few people here that had a problem with the spawn points in Forge when going to a custom game, along with me. It has been bugging me for a while. Just a while ago, I was able to figure it out. Here are the steps.
1) Start Forge
2) Switch to proper gametype (there IS a Slayer option, you must choose that if it you want standard Team Slayer or FFA Slayer)
3) Place STARTING Spawn Point for each team in the area you would like them to respawn.
4) Place RESPAWN AREA and make the radius, top and bottom to cover the spawn points and initial respawn points for one team.
5) Place respawn points as needed for each team.
Now then, when your press X on any three of the above, you may set them to be 'Attackers', 'Defenders', '3rd-8th Team'. Attackers and Defenders are Red and Blue. So if you set up something like CTF with only attacker and defender spawn points, the teams must be Red and Blue or else the spawn points will not work.
By placing neutral respawn points or even neutral spawn points, this means anyone will spawn there. This is what you would want to have people spawn say in the middle of the map. And this is a problem I believe in match making games. Bungie placed it to where there are neutral spawn points say behind the base in Highground, and at the beach. Therefore, anyone can spawn there.
I hope this helped.
Edit: If this still doesn't work, try eliminating the respawn area altogether and place the respawn points around one starting point while making them set for the appropriate teams or neutral.

i made a gametype where there is a jail that one of the teams will respawn in when they die, how do i make it so that when the map starts they spawn outside but after that respawn in jail? EDIT: sry, i just realized my problem. expect my Sandjail (TM) map on my file share soon, along with a d-day CTF/ assault foundry variant. [Edited on 12.23.2007 1:01 PM PST]

I can't believe I get to help y'all people out on Christmas. The problem is one of two things. The first is most probable. ONE 1) Goto EDIT/Monitor mode 2) Hit [Start], [Change the gametype] to the one you want (Slayer for FFA and Team Slayer) 3) Hit [X] and RB over to Spawners. 4) Goto Respawn Areas and hit [X] again. 5) If it says placed on map greater than 0, and you haven't place one. That's your problem. These things look just like King of The Hill Markers. Load up a custom game, King of the Hill, and look at the marker in the center of the hill. These will be in your Forge session too, under a different alias. If you "double-X" on a object in Forge, you get its name. In this case, we're looking for the dreaded Respawn Areas. "Double-X" is also great to make sure you are grabbing that little thing on that well-placed double box. TWO Sometimes Forge doesn't recognize the correct spawn points unless you do a real custom game with the correct game variant selected. [Edited on 12.21.2007 10:36 PM PST]

ok, heres my problem. Im making a map for for a gametype were the VIP spawns away from his team (so they can rescue him from what would otherwise be certain death). On High Ground, i placed a load of respawns and put them under "defenders" on the beach for the rescue team, and a starting point (marked under defenders) in a small room for the VIP. When i started the game, the VIP started on the beach, and a regular team member was in the small room. Could someone tell me how to make a 100% guaranteed spawn for the VIP?

I dont get what you mean by starting spawns and respawns. Ive deleted every spawn point and put new ones in the area I want, but it spawns me outside the area i put them in. How do you know which is a starting spawn, cause I deleted all but mine

First off I suggest downloading empty maps to create with in Forge. found here http://www.bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx?postID=13201523 Second, if you don't have any respawn points then forge will spawn you in a default location that can not be changed. For those of you that can't find the starting point and other spawn points. You must push start when in edit mode and change the game type to something other than all gametypes. I have found that if you are trying to make yourself spawn in a certain area place a single spawn point and the choose "Start New Round" this should spawn you on your new spawn point. I know this works with only one spawn point or if all spawn points are in the same area. Hope this helps. [Edited on 11.06.2007 9:28 PM PST]

squidhands. It could be a respawn area if youre using some of the bigger maps. These are shown by a small object that can be seen only if you look really hard or you know where it is already (from personal experience).
Posted by: pro cleaner Bungie made a great " how to" guide for advanced forge. It has a big section on respawn points, and how they all work. If you're having problems with this you should definately check it out.
Yeah, I had already checked it out before I posted (I try to do my homework before I just start yammering). It didn't give me exactly what I was looking for, but it did give me an idea to try out later. If I spawn in that area again I'll just stick a large crate over it and see if that eliminates the problem. If anyone else knows the 'real' way to delete the initial spawn point I sure would appreciate it.

I'm having similar issues. I've switched the gametype to Slayer, eliminated all the visible starting spawns and respawns in an area I don't want them in, but when I go back to test it I'm still spawning in that same area. I immediately switch over to editor, look at where I just spawned from and there's no indicator there. It's freaking me out. Any help would be greatly appreciated; I'd like to play this map tonight with some friends.

svhalo2 i have the same problem...

How do I set spawn points in Juggernaut?
-
Toprogue, If you are in the "All Gametypes" setting you will not see the spawn points but if you are in something like Slayer you will see them.
-
I can't find the initial spawn points. I understand they are different than the respawn points, but when I make a respawn point, I don't have an option to set a spawn point. I am trying to make a beach attack on last resort. Defenders should spawn on the wall, attackers should spawn in the water. But the initial spawn does not work. Please explain and help further. Thanks, Toprogue

hey i made a map at last resort in the room with the generator in it and i try to keep everyone locked in there but it keeps spawning them outside wen the game first starts, and if theres anyone else in the room it respawns them outside. also i dont know how to get a starting point wen i go to the spawn point menu all i see is respawn points, was this an update for people with xbox live because i dont have live yet (but i might get it sunday)

At first I thought that you NEEDED the respawn area to be set...and I THINK it worked at first...but then it started to get screwy. So all I did was take that away and leave the STARTING POINT set for a specific team. (Attackers or defenders) And the rest of RESPAWN POINTS set for the appropriate team, attackers, defenders, 3rd, 4th, etc... Once this is done, people should spawn both at the starting points and the respawn points.

wow, thanks a lot, maybe now i can get my spike ball (basically dodgeball with gernades) game to work now. (if you wanna see it, go to my file share, the map is there, but the actual variant, i havent uploaded yet.) by the way, it doesnt HAVE to be red and blue teams, i noticed that attackers and defenders option worked for the frist 2 teams int the party. so if you have like greeen and purple, it should still work. any teams more than that, and it'll go nuts.

Thanks!
