Brute Chieftains on Legendary with Mythic, Tilt, and Thunderstorm Skulls

I've been having a difficult time eliminating Brute Chieftains while playing Halo 3 on Legendary with the following skulls activated: Mythic* Tilt* Thunderstorm* Catch Tough Luck Famine Cowbell, IWHBYD, Grunt Birthday Party It's the first three skulls which make the Chieftains downright impossible to kill without superior firepower (like a tank or fuel rod cannon). There have been several encounters where my only recourse has been to run away from the Chieftain - the barracks battle in Crow's Nest and the exit from the control room battle from The Ark. In both of those battles, the available weapons don't seem to have any effect on the chieftain. What methods have other people used with success to kill the chieftains? Have you had success running around and meleeing them from behind? I've had no success trying to do that when the Brute is holding a hammer or plasma turret! Remember that neither plasma grenades nor spikers will stick to the chieftains. Thanks!

 • Technically the game registers Blue Brutes as higher than Gold Brutes, but Blue is actually weaker.

 • Use the fire grenades, they are Chieftan killers, make the battle a downright joke, at least without skulls... with all those it'll still be allitle harder, but 2-3 flame nades should do the trick. For the Crows nest "gang bang" (bungies words!) scene, you are out of luck though!

 • I go on Legendary and try to do the entire game using all of the skulls except Iron, and Blind. it's hard.

 • well, on certainparts you get camo beforehand, so you can assassinate them if you still have it. But mainly I just throw grenades at their feet and fire at them with whatever gun I happen to have.

 • Lawl I did Normal with Thunderstorm and the one that doubles the HP, when on the Dam the chiften wouldnt die. 106 rounds to the head with BR, 362 rounds with AR, full carbine clip, 6 sticky gernades, 2 rounds of Spiker, 2 overcharged plasma pistole duel weild. He still wouldnt die, I was able to blow him off the dam finally, but then some random grunt comes out of no where and sticks me, every time I finally push em off the Dam I die and back I go.

 • I was about to start my own thread for this. I guess people don't read the post really to give a good answer. I'm surprised you didn't get any OMGZ YOUS DA SN1p3r Rfile Nooobz. I'll bump it for you (and for me) in case someone has something to offer that doesn't include, "Disable the Tilt Skull" Heaven forbid you want to play the game for a specific challenge... I've honestly had no luck other then circle around and melee.. It does suck for meta games cause when you meet one of these guys it really can keep you stuck there for awhile. Cringing at your point loss each time. Further more it doesn't help that they guys are never alone, so you usually have to fight to them just to get hammered in the face. Let me know if you find anything else out, and I'll just keep practicing too.

 • Dual charged plasma pistol bolts DO NOT blow off the armor on the Brute Chieftain with the following settings: Level: Covenant at Rally Point B Difficulty: Legendary Skulls: Mythic, Tilt, Thunderstorm, Famine, Cowbell, Catch, Tough Luck (Grunt Birthday Party, IWHBYD) The chieftain that I'm fighting is the first one you fight after leaving the cartographer (not the second one with the hammer and the jet pack brutes). I hit the chieftain with several dual charged plasma bolts to no avail. Looks like I'm going to find a way to circle strafe the brute and melee him in the back.

Try it on normal or heroic and turn on the fog skull and you should get points just fine. Otherwise always have a plasma pistol/wpn on hand. It's the only thing that makes a real dent with mythic on.
It's also the only thing that gets past their armor. :(
Actually, I'm just doing it for the challenge. Plasma pistols work fine on regular brutes to knock off their armor, but didn't appear to affect the chieftains. Another person said to use dual charged plasma pistols bolts. I'll also try sticking a spiker at their feet.

 • You can stick them. I just sticked the final Chieftain on The Ark with a Spike Grenade. The trick is to aim for their legs. It sticks onto their feet. not thighs. Feet. And it seems that the Shotgun manages to stun the chieftain. I was fighting the hammer dude on Crows NEst and I jkept dying. I got out my shotgun and nrought him into the narrow passageway before you fight him and I fired at him. He stood there! then a few more shots keot him stunned and he died soon after.

 • points at tilt skull you do know what that does right? it make all brutes immune to most human weapons the exceptions are the laser and spanker. mythic double their health. famine makes weapon have alot less ammo thunderstorms make more heavily armored brute appear earlier on.and tough luck make them dodge grenades (even though u cant stick em anyways) basically yea bring a buddy or plasma pistol overcharge and then a headshot from any head shot capable weapon. • It's -blam!-ing easy. When they jump at you, you circle-strafe and hit them in the back. For the turret guys, throw a spike grenade on the wall like you're supposed to (not on the ground) and it'll take them down fast.
