Look at all his games that he gets 1st place in. He joins up with a friend and has his other account quit out so he gets 1st place every time. How can this be allowed?

Now Game Geanie type cheats, in which I was referring too earlier are different, and really should be a separate entity when it comes to cheating in this discussion.
Posted by: KING GHUTA Along the same lins as Recon 54: I want to hear what Walshy, the captain of FB thinks about being associated with and sponsered by a proven manipulater of the rules in the game that has put money in his wallet. Sure it does not affect tournament games, but the reputation of that league as truly professional is at serious risk.
Especially if public opinion is that they just try to find ways to make them selves look better by exploiting systems and cheating. Though a lot of gamers don't care, they even like to cheat, or think it's funny, or god forbid apart of the game. Have we groomed a society of gamers that think cheating is alright? That if it doesn't hurt everyone that it doesn't matter? I like to cheat sometimes in the game itself, like giving me unlimited ammo and being invincible but not in multiplayer. Multiplayer to me is you proving your metal against others under a fixed rule set, where it's fair and balanced. I would think that is what pro leagues are trying to do. Promote an equality in all the games they play so the best man truly wins. Cheating has no place in pro gaming, and so should not be tolerated by people who are involved, even if it's not in a tournament.

1st: Recon, yer a genius. 2nd: some of us play at a level equal to backyard football; some of play at a level equal to bush league softball; some of us play at a level of back-room poker; some of play at a level of semi-pro, and some of us play at a level of PROfessional. in any of these cases, the instant someone cheats, that person is called on it and appropriate action is taken. he cheated. regardless of whether there are a thousand little kids out there doing it right now, he did it and he admits it. (http://www.gamersreports.com/news/6747/arenas-speaks-with-gamersreports--cheaters-always-win/ just as an example) now granted, you wouldn't castrate yer buddy for hiding an ace up his sleeve in a penny ante poker game. you'd raz him pretty good but you wouldn't ban him for life. however, that's not quite what we're dealin with is it? this dude is a "promoter" of gaming, his face is on the cover of a game, he sponsors a team of PROfessionals. he has put himself on a pedestal. action should be taken against GA. it's the right thing to do. 3rd: imo, bungie has a bigger problem with the suicide wins going on right now.... [Edited on 10.12.2007 8:33 AM PDT]
Posted by: SuspectFurb You can not compare a Pro-am golf Tournament to a game of Social doubles on halo, lol. It's more like a hard core golf fan was peeking through the woods and saw a "baseball" player and his friends cheating in a social game between friends. Is he cheating? Sure. but it isn't effecting anything except for people's opinions on him.
And that was my question. What is your opinion of all of the parties mentioned in this? You're right, I don't see this effecting the NBA at all. But I do see a PR risk for professional gaming, as it is is in its infancy and small events can effect public opinion. Your statement;
Posted by: SuspectFurb If you are a professional gamer then i can understand the concern if it is done during a gaming tournament. But, if it isn't then i don't think the "pro" gamer would care, it is not effecting his game, wallet or the tournaments. I can see why the average Joe is upset cause it appears that he is getting away with something that we feel we would get banned for if caught doing, that's fine. I'm not condoning cheating or boosting, but you cant compare a video game to any viable sport just yet.
Seems to indicate to me that the only thing that a pro-gamer should be thinking about is their own game, their wallet and their professional performance. Fair enough. And I can appreciate that. So a pro-baller shouldn't say anything or do anything when they are made aware of colleges paying athletes or faking their grades, kids in youth leagues taking steroids because they want to "go pro", or anything outside of "their game, their wallet and their performance"? You see, that is still a valid point of view, but the public (which tends to feel instead of think) might disagree. Which is why there are press agents. Someone has to smooth things over and present it in a more palatable way.
-
Let me just say that I don't think pro gamers cheat while they're in a tournament. That to me isn't the issue. Now if a pro basketball player didn't cheat playing the NBA, but when he played other people for fun he drugged their water so they would slow down, then what would it say about that person? (Totally off base and hypothetical mind you.) What I'm saying is, he's involved in pro gaming, and was caught cheating. That is a very bad image for him, his team and mostly for the 'sport'. Some people do liken pro gaming to anything else, like pro poker, pro sports or even pro wrestling. They are the best in the world, and they prove it, and they have the right to think that. There shouldn't be an acceptance of high profile people cheating, even if it doesn't mean much. Actually, it still promotes an image on Halo 3, and gives him bragging rights in that industry. To those pro gamers, being a general might be a huge deal if they were actually competing in Halo 3.
-
Posted by: Recon Number 54 For example, (and this is extreme, but still follows the general rule). If FB were to arrange with a competing team which team would win or lose when they were to meet in tournament play, that would undermine the integrity of the game that they are trying to elevate. I think that we can all agree on that.
This is the part where I think rank boosting is a problem. It ruins the integrity of the system for everybody because now players will always wonder if that Level 3 gunnery sergeant has really won as many games as his rank would indicate, or if it's phony. I understand that this action doesn't hurt anybody, however it damages the system that everyone uses. I'm competitive, so I'd like that rank to mean something. Having said that, I know at the end of the day that it's just a game, and there are more important things. However, I want that rank to mean something, and while no one can take my personal rank away, because I know I earned it, now I always have to wonder about the other players. And they will wonder about my rank. All because certain players use the system in a way that we know it wasn't intended to be used. I'm not saying he did anything wrong; I just think abusing the system hurts everyone, because everyone has the use the system if they want to play matchmade games. [Edited on 10.12.2007 8:23 AM PDT]

MLG needs to think about having team sponsers that cheat. Could the makers of spring shoes sponser a team in the NBA?

Print media has picked up on this. Dan Steinberg wrote about this in his blog: http://blog.washingtonpost.com/dcsportsbog/2007/10/is_gilbert_cheating_at_halo.html. It's also in the print edition of todays Washington Post. [Edited on 10.12.2007 8:07 AM PDT]
