Weapon Designs

So in Halo, why do the rifles mainly come in bullpup designs? The Assasult Rifle (H:CE,3,Reach), Battle Rifle (H2,3), and the DMR(Reach). Was there ever any concepts of rifles that weren't a bullpup design? Excluding the sniper rifle of course. I have no problem with it, but it's pretty interesting that almost all the rifles are designed like that. I like the SMG (H2,3) concept too, it's small, caseless. And the shotgun....well it's a shotgun. What do you think of Halo's human weapons?

 • The one thing I never liked about all the Halo games is how the weapon designs never actually match how the weapon behaves. If I was designing a video game, I would do things differently. I mean, I understand that different weapons are going to have different characteristics in order to balance the game play fairly, but what should be done is to figure out what characteristics weapons are going to have FIRST, and then design what they look like. I remember reading about how the original Assault Rifle fired 7.62 x 51 NATO rounds. First, Does NATO even exist anymore if you have the UNSC? Second, considering the barrel length, magazine capacity, and caliber of the rifle, it should have much longer range, and be much more accurate. The magazine should also be a lot longer, or wider, or both. Instead, they could have made it a conventional design instead of bullpup, given it a smaller magazine capacity, or smaller caliber. Nothing make sense. Just as a disclaimer, I have a lot of firearms experience, and I'm not just talking -blam!- out of my ass. -MAZ
